Austin Thomas

I wish the UT site would update the staff page as new coaches are hired. The only change made is listing Pruitt as HC. It still lists Butch's staff under all the position coaches.

A native of Franklin, Tenn., Thomas was the primary recruiter for LSU on Stevens and he was also the primary on another Nashville prospect, four-star linebacker Jacob Phillips. Those two players, both the top-ranked at their position according to the 247Sports Composite, helped Thomas hit 11th in the country in the 247Sports Recruiter Rankings for the 2017 cycle.

Because of the transition in the coaching staff, Thomas was granted the ability to hit the road last winter as an assistant coach for LSU — so in addition to coordinating the travel plans of the LSU staff, Thomas made his own itinerary. That was bad news for opposing schools, particularly those recruiting Thomas’ home state of Tennessee.

LSU's 31-year-old GM Austin Thomas is changing the game

Thanks, good info!

Apparently this guy is a big deal and a lot of LSU fans are super pissed that their AD would let him leave.

He is their best recruiter. He had landed SEVERAL 5 stars to LSU from Tennessee and other recruits.

He land Jacoby Stevens 30 days after seeing him at a Camp that Kirby, Bama, and others were at. He isn't a coach either.

I know they are way behind!

If Austin is official and back at UT, it will be hard for anybody to get into Tennessee very much with him along with the rest of this staff working. GBO!

Wait till 2019 for the on field results. It typically takes a coach one year to instill his culture. Right now it's about recruiting. Close well on the 2018 class. Then try to land the #1 class in 2019.

Then we'll be ready to roll.

With how loaded the classes of 2019 and 2020 are in Tennessee, we need that.

We can probably land a top 10 class in 2019 with just instate kids if we can lock down the state. There are already 19 composite 4-stars in the class of 2019 from Tennessee.

Recruiting is gonna be fun over the next 2 years.

I am a bit confused about this. Austin Thomas is listed as the General Manager on the LSU website. I assume he would take a similar position here. But I was under the impression that only coaches could recruit. Am I mistaken about that?

He can recruit if the staff has not been fully assembled much like with Fulmer calling Cade Mays. Once the complete staff has been assembled, he won’t be able to recruit.

He actively recruits for LSU. I've seen him in my old high school lol

Will be Pruitts right hand man. Will be announced Tuesday

If you can't beat him, hire him. Likely the most important hire of Pruitts young career and most certainly the one that will reap the greatest rewards.

I did a little research on his role at LSU last night. LSU is one of 2 schools in the country that employ a position like his at LSU. His position is HUGE for recruiting because he basically serves as a GM of the football team, which allows him to serve as a liaison to the NFL for players on the team. One of his main job duties is to work with Pro teams to get LSU players a job in the league. He sells this to recruits and it's a big dang deal for a lot of them because that's their main goal when it's all said and done. If he really comes to UT that's a big dang deal.
