Austin Rogers

OK, somebody needs to explain to me what the productivity yardstick is for "SEC quality" receiver. If somebody is trying to make AR a feature/go-to WR then no, I don't think he has that kind of ability. I tell you what though, the last time we had a QB he did better than fine as far as production.

AR's 56 receptions for 624 yards would have made him:
AL #2 receiver
AR #1
AU #1 in receptions/#2 in yardage
FL tied for #2 in receptions/#3 in yardage
GA #1 (that's right, in '07 no GA WR had more catches or yards)
KY tied #3 rec/#4 yards (needed 31 more yards)
LSU #2
MSSt #2
MS #1 rec/#2 yards
SC #2
V #2

So, in '07 this guy puts up numbers that would have made him the leading receiver on the whole team for 3 SEC squads and no worse than 2nd in reception or yardage on 6 others. Spin this all you want but when he had QB play he had demonstable production to go with it.

Feature receiver? No. SEC caliber contributer? He doesn't even have anything to prove, he already has.

Nice post. Good research. He's still a turd and not good enough to play for UT.

Your stats mean nothing! He is a TURD!:p

First of all, my OPINION is that there is no way this guy should be a starter, much less play. In "a" season, he had over 50 catches. Amazing. If this guy thinks that he should be a starter, then he needs to work his rear off, catch clutch passes and not WR screens all day, and prove me and several hundred fans wrong. I just don't see it happening.

He dropped some balls he should have caught... at the same time, they sent him over the middle and he got clocked a few times. He kept going and making good efforts at balls.

FTR, he's caught numerous clutch passes but many people tend to remember the negative rather than the positive.

If UT had someone demonstrably better then they would have played more... especially guys like Paige and Hancock. Both of those guys have been given opportunities to carve out PT and couldn't do it.

Alright. No spin. No funny stuff. I don't like Austin Rodgers. I don't think he is good enough to start over other guys on the team. I think he was given special treatment by CPF just so Zach Rodgers would come to UT. AR has not been consistent. He is not a "chain mover." He has shown consistently that he is prone to drop a key pass. He does have talent, otherwise he wouldn't be in the SEC. Read this, and read this carefully...IMO, he is not good enough to play for The University of Tennessee. IMO, he is a turd. He REALLY does make me sick when I see him in the game. I'll give you this, he is mediocre at best, but IMO mediocre isn't good enough for UT Football.

I'm not questioning the guy's toughness. Not at all. I'm saying flat out, that he is not good enough, IMO, to be a WR at this university. If he comes out this year and dominates, let's say 73 receptions for 1200 yards and 10 TD's, then I will be happy for the kid. If helps us WIN GAMES while having these stats, then he will have proved me wrong and I will be excited that we didn't go 5-7 again, or 9-4.

That's nice. Sorry if I upset you because of a strong opinion that I hold. But you wasted your time from the beginning. I told you no one could change my opinion of the guy. But nice tries and attempts to try and prove my opinion is wrong. I just flat out don't think he is good enough.

You're just being a troll. Good job.

Nope. I just post occasionally, and am not on a laptop for hours a day slaving over VolNation waiting to try and tell somebody they don't know what they're talking about or their opinion is wrong. No, sir, I am not a troll, but I'm not a loser with a laptop and no life. I'm just a normal guy who loves the Vols and likes a good discussion.

We will all find out how Austin Rogers does next year on the field. Right now you people are just "jerking each other off", metaphorically speaking that is.

If you had just stated what I have in bold I'd have had no huge issues with it. Simple opinion and you're welcome to it. The other stuff, especially the last part, is nigh impossible to reconcile with the numbers I provided in my post. To wit, in '07 AR's production would have made him, at worst, the #2 receiver on 10 of 12 SEC teams and the straight up(catches and yards) #1 receiver on 2 of them.

Look, if it were up to me, and assuming Paige could somehow pull his head out of his nether regions, my #1 3 wide would be Moore/Paige on the outside and Jones in the slot. Saying that takes nothing away from the fact that AR has demonstrated (meaning proven, past tense, already done it) he can play in this league.

As for you stomach issues...have you been checked for an ulcer?

besides lucas taylor and gerald jones i dont see how u can say that any of the other should play over austin maybe if ahmad paige gets things straight he might be another ahead of him but since he didnt see the field this year for one reason or another, you cant put him there but austin is an sec caliber player with good speed since he runs a 4.4...same as jones

Yes. I have an ulcer. Diagnosed 2 years ago. The doctor said it was from watching Austin Rodgers. He said it happened to everyone he knows who watches UT football. LOL! Look, saying that I threw up everytime I saw him play was in fact fictitious, although I really hate seeing the guy play. I'm not taking anything away from AR, I'm just stating that I don't like him, I don't think he should start, and my opinion of him as a player is that of a turd. Why get so bent out of shape?

He may be able to run a 4.4 on a track, but he sure as hell doesn't play like he can run a 4.4.

Whoa Whoa WTH!?

So what you're saying is that for this kid to vindicate himself in your eyes he has to better the most catches by anyone in the SEC this year (LSU's LaFell with 63) by 10 catches and tack 237 yards onto AJ Green's (GA) league leading 963 yards?

Seriously man...that's messed up...bad.

yes. or, he can catch a few first downs, and not drop big plays, or just be a flat out playmaker, or consistent option a la Wes Welker.

Yes, the kid has heart. I will give him that. But I totally agree that there are 4-5 better recievers on this team.

Gerald Jones
Denarius Moore
Josh Briscoe
Ahmad Paige
Quinton Hancock

4 of those guys are definitely better, maybe Hancock.

Hancock can be better if he wants to. Paige I am not so sure about, but he hasn't gotten a chance to prove himself yet.
