I feel like Austin Rogers could be the type of player at UT that Gonzalez was at Ohio St. the past couple of years. I believe that he has that type of ability. Doesn't mean that he will be. I just thought that I would get your opinions on this.

I can see Rogers being a solid contributer down the line, but nothing more. Kind of like what Bobby Graham was to us in 2001.

He's fast but the fact that he hasnt come in and made himself a solid starter with the top 3 receivers gone shows he's still got a ways to go before he'll be anything special. He'll a solid contributor but I dont see him being All-SEC or anything

How fast is Rogers. Gonzalez is much faster than many people think. Even here in Columus, the fans often see Gonzalez as a guy with great hands and decent speed, but he is right up there with Ginn...

I'm wondering if you'd be making the same comparison if their skin color was different. I do not mean that in a bad way at all but it seems to be very common for people to use this to compare athletes. Like calling someone the next Larry Bird is very popular for white bball players.

I know Trooper said he was one of the fastest receivers we had last year and said that he runs consistently in the lower 4.4s. In Rocky Top News they were talking about it because Trooper said when he took over the receivers he thought he was a slow possession type due to him being white and after he played he saw it was the opposite.

Just for the record I don't think Rogers will be quite as good... In fact, I have no idea whatsoever how good he will be, but I could only hope me is a first round pick.

What can you say about Rogers? He just hasn't been on the field long enough to see what he has to offer. I know he has made some catches but nothing special. And the Cal game he was the starting Punt Returner and fair caught about 6 punts.
Out of the returning WRs I think he has the most to prove. He's been in the program for three years, so its now or never. Hopefully he will stay healthy a prove to be a go to guy for EA.

The comparison that I made has absolutely nothing to do with the color of their skin. The last thing I wanted to do was get in a racial debate by starting this thread. The comparison that I made was by what I've seen from Rogers is he is quick, runs good routes, and has good hands. Reminds me somewhat of Gonzalez. I think that he is one of those guys that you can always expect to be in the right place at the right time. At least from what I saw of him against Air Force last year. I'm not saying that he was going to be a first rounder or even a super star at UT. I was just stating that their playing styles seem very similar.

How I loathe the name of Anthony Gonzalez....

I coached against him when he was in high school and the talent that he had was amazing. I'm not surprised at all that he ended up a first-rounder, and I think he'll far surpass what Ginn does.

I don't mean anything bad by this at all, but would you have even made that statement if I had made the comparison between Kenny O'Neal and Robert Meachem? (We all know their isn't) So to answer your question yes I would be making the same comparison if their skin color was different.(If their playing style was similar)

I have a friend that knows him. He's deceptivly fast and has good hands. He was injured and also had mono last year. So it's kind of hard to judge his playing skills right now for Tenn.

I thought Austin did a good job against air force last year. I cant remember how many catches he had, but I remember hearing his name quite a bit.

My point was that there are dozens of similar receivers and that was the one you chose (again). It was a valid question but you seem to wrongly take offense. I just get tired of the "Wow, he's fast for a white guy" crap, especially when he has not even made 1/10th the impact a 1st rounder did.
