Austin Johnson's high school stats at LB were ridiculous

Excellent question.

This was my question, with the stats being tossed around now I would almost be suprised if there wasn't an archived thread asking this when he came in. If it works out could be a good sign of good talent evaluation on someone's part. Heck if we have the injury bug again even if he doesn't do remarkably well it will have seemed IDK logical?

3A North Carolina. That is the 5th highest out of the 8 classes in NC. They do their classifications weird.

It's actually just 1-A, 2-A, 3-A and 4-A. Teams are subdivided into those four classes based on enrollment. The eight-tiered system only comes into play at playoff time. The teams in each playoff pool are divided based on enrollment, so that there is a "large" and "small" championship, and so on down the line. The "large" split is called 1-AA, 2-AA, etc.

Austin Johnson played for Hickory High School. They play in an area with several traditional 2-A and 3-A powers; schools in that area, including Hickory itself, have won multiple state championships. His level of high school competition was good, although the 4-A conferences based around Charlotte, Fayetteville and (sometimes) Raleigh are certainly stronger.

You and I are both from Tennessee and you know what they say about glass houses and throwing stones...DON'T! j/k

Tennessee's classification system has become so ridiculous, I don't think even the TSSAA knows how to figure it out.

And as far as the tackle totals go...I have never understood how there can only be, say, 40 plays on defense and special teams, but the team total for tackles will be like 150. Tackles are the most fudged stat there is in football.

Well, whatever kind of competition he played against and whether it was 200 or 150 or what...I will say this: he didn't take too many plays off.

The knock on him out of high school certainly wasn't his stats but his speed. That and the fact that they needed help at FB were prob why he was moved.
