Auburn to hire Bryan Harsin

He's a good coach and on the surface a decent hire. However, this IS the SEC. Auburn fired a coach that won a NC and had beaten Saban on multiple ocassions and hiring a guy that has done neither. Good luck with that.
He won as an Offensive Coordinator...not Head Coach

Some interesting stats. In his 7 years as Boise St HC; 15 of Harsin’s players were drafted.
I put the Rd drafted and the star ratings from their recruitment.

7th Rd- Charles Leno 3* OT
6th Rd- Matt Paradis 0* OC
6th Rd- Tanner Vallejo 3* ILB
6th Rd- Cedrick Wilson Jr 0* WR
5th Rd- Jay Ajayi 3* RB
5th Rd- John Hightower 3* WR
5th Rd- Curtis Weaver 3* SDE
5th Rd- Jeremy McNichols 3* WR
3rd Rd- Rees Odhiambo 3* OG
3rd Rd- Darian Thompson 3* S
2nd Rd- Damarcus Lawrence 3* SDE
2nd Rd- Kamalei Correa 3* ILB
2nd Rd- Ezra Cleveland 3* OT
1sr Rd- Leighton Vander Esch was a walk-on

One thing is for sure; players were being developed at Boise State. In comparison, for the same 7 year period Tennessee had 14 players drafted mostly 4-5* recruits.

I think Auburn made an excellent hire.

Why has know one mentioned Hardin for the UT job?

Is it because he’s not a “new” up & comer and was not expected to leave Boise or is there something else?

It’s a serious question. Record wise he looks great but I’m wondering why I haven’t heard of him.

Harsin's a good coach, but always tough to tell how Boise State success translates to anywhere else. Hawkins bombed at Colorado and Koetter bombed at Arizona State. Petersen was successful, but he stayed in the Pacific NW.

In any case, I'm skeptical that this is an upgrade for Auburn.

I really do not see it as an upgrade. Auburn is taking a huge and expensive chance a non proven coach in the sec. Butch Jones did well at Cin. but couldn't cut it in the sec.

People need to stop with this myth that Gus won a National Championship. If being a coordinator on a NC team is the standard then we have tons of NC coaches to pick from next year if things don’t work out.

Impressive

If true Auburn is paying Boise $30 mil for their coach then that is the dumbest spend of $50 mil I’ve ever seen.

I think the $30 million is a combination of Malzahn and Harsin. Harsin's buyout is only $8M+, while Malzahn's is $21M+.

But maybe that's what you meant.

Either way, Harsin's actual buyout is $8M or so.

To be fair Koetter and Hawkins got quick success at Boise ST and ran.

Petersen & Harsin both stayed long enough to really become their own man as a coach.....do their own thing with all their own players.

who knows what will happen.....however Koetter and Hawkins failures really shouldn’t deter anyone........this guy is 15 years removed from either of those two.
