What are people thoughts on this rivalry, maybe from the older fans? AU and UT played every year from 1957-1991 and it seems it has been a better series than The Third Saturday October as far as both teams being good at the same time.

I don't like thinking about the hits our head-to-head records with the likes of Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Alabama and Florida have taken over the last 10-12 years. It's really quite sad. I agree that Tennessee-Auburn used to be one of the best rivalries in the conference.

I hated seeing the series end after the 1991 game. I was bummed about that.

There's no telling when the next time Auburn will come back on the schedule again.

I've talked with older Auburn fans and they remember it as a great rivalry too - Lots of good, entertaining games.

I got a beef with that article now that I've opened it. The author says the Third Saturday in October has been one-sided throughout history and that just isn't true. I think the margin is 10 or 11 games now in favor of Bama, and well, they've won 7 straight. Before our recent collapse, it was neck and neck, and NO SCHOOL has beat Bama more than Tennessee. /rant

With streaks throughout the series like this, Bama/UT has been lopsided
11 — Alabama (1971-1981)
9 — Alabama (1986-1994)
7 — Tennessee (1995-2001)
7 — Alabama (1905-1913)
7 — Alabama (2007-Present)
6 — Tennessee (1955-1960)
6 — Tennessee (1948-1953)

I think the Bama/ UT series is 51-37-7 in favor of Bama.

Some of the hardest fought games in the late 1980s and early 1990s were between Tennessee and Auburn (at least two ended in a tie).

I think it was after the 1989 win over Auburn that the fans tore down one of the goalposts and carried it all the way to Neyland Drive before it finally broke.

I've had enough of these "facts" and "figures" - I'm sticking with good ole fashion snake handling for my answers

I believe Auburn has the longest chronological win streak over us compared to any other sec team. It is over 10 years now. We need to end that tomorrow. Go Big Orange beat those tigers/war eagles/what ever else they call themselves!

We have lost 5 in a row to Auburn.

I would say that Auburn was consistently our second biggest game for the fans in the 70s and 80s - the team we wanted to beat the most after Bamer.
The 85 game was one of the top 5 greatest Vol victories in my lifetime.

I remember the Auburn rivalry as second only to Alabama. The early season matchup with Auburn usually determined which team was a real contender for the SEC championship, often as the top challenger to Alabama.

Back then only one or two SEC teams, if any, were considered national championship contenders going into each season. Now days five or six SEC teams have national title aspirations going in. Really, every SEC game is a rivalry game now.

I was at that game....didn't rush the field, and don't remember too much of it, but remember it was a big deal that we tied them.

Where does Auburn rank as far as rivals go? Even though the game isn't played as often now, the Auburn game feels more special than playing Georgia. Not so much compared to playing Bama and Florida, but Auburn probably comes in third.

It's time we started win streaks again against SEC teams. We need to load up the box and blitz. Roll the dice and play like our hair's on fire. If they beat us make it be through the air. Hope the AU QB tells media they had trouble communicating with all the crowd noise and that is why they had so many proceedure and delay of game penalties.

I agree with that.

The '92 expansion put Florida in the top 2 and Auburn slipped to 3rd. Definitely like beating them more than Georgia or anyone else in the East.
