If Auburn is put on probation for the next few years, or given an extended post-season ban by the NCAA, how would it not affect him?

Rarely, if ever, is the self-imposed punishment more harsh than the actual punishment.
Just off the top of my head, I can think of one recent case that runs counter to this belief. In 2017, the Ole Miss football program had self imposed a one year bowl ban, scholarship reductions and some recruiting restrictions. The NCAA Committee on Infractions accepted those penalties, but then also added a second year of postseason eligibility for the 2018 season as well.

"This was a difficult decision -- but the right decision," Pearl said in a statement released by the school. "I hate it for our current players. They lost the opportunity for the postseason last year because of COVID, and now they will miss the postseason again. It's a two-year postseason penalty for them. However, we need to take this penalty now to put it behind us."

What a sleazeball. I can't believe that guy thinks anyone would buy this. Always a victim.

But that info hasn’t come out, the only info is a self imposed ban...the investigation was going on when Smith committed, nothing has happened to change a future outlook.

Why aren’t the facts of the investigation produced before any penalty is considered or assessed? Sounds like Bruce is trying to save some skin before the executioner sharpens his knife.

Am I correct in still thinking Bruce never spilled any of the beans to his current employer?
