FWIW, I don't see Auburn being a 4-6 year job for Pearl.

Its the equivalent to picking up highway litter for a DUI.

He'll wash his sins away for two years and move along to a bigger program.


(Its nothing like him taking UT in 2005. I think Auburn and Tennessee are vastly different basketball programs, history and fan base-wise).

Ok fair enough, I didn't know that was his record against Cal. I had forgotten they played that much. I was just remembering the 1v2 match-up, and then another time where I think they were ranked pretty high and got worked in TBA in a big upset at the time. Regardless, AU just had a very good coach fall into their laps.

For all those thinking Auburn is suddenly going to become a basketball force in the SEC, ask yourself this question; can Pearl win without cheating? He cheated abundantly while at UT, and yes, that led to some success, although it didn't lead to any championships of note, unless the 2008 regular season SEC gets you all excited. One has to presume since he was fired in disgrace for cheating/lying that he'll clean up his act at Auburn and not lie/cheat. I'm not sure he can win without the shadiness.

Just imagine if the Martin talk about him wanting to leave is true, and after the NCAAT he's fired or leaves on his own. This place will be nuclear because it would not only show the talk about an opening was true, but definitely prove Pearl was NEVER considered at all.

This is great news for the SEC maybe now we will get more respect as a Bball conference...having in the NCAA eyes the A-10 and new Big East are better than the SEC right now...here is to hoping the SEC will get back to 5+ teams getting in the tourney again

I don't worship Pearl but his record shows he is a winner and he will win at Auburn. New facilities, located within 2 hours or so of Atlanta, Birmingham, northern Florida. He will recruit well there and recruits like to play for winners. Auburn now has one of the top 3 coaches in the SEC.

I have a feeling Pearl will be playing it clean for the time being.

However, there is the question of if Pearl will be able to coach and recruit at the level he did when he was here. It's not a given by any means.

Pearl lied and got himself fired. We really didn't have any choice on that front.

Our current coach finished the season well and made the NCAA tournament. We weren't going to fire him for that at this point.

Bruce went and got another job that was available.

I'm appreciative of what Bruce did for Tennessee basketball, but I just don't think there's a reason to melt down or take this so personally. If Pearl loves us as much as we love him, we can just get him in a few years anyway :)

I dont think you're alone. Most people just wont admit it. Bruce leaves the barn after one year if we offer, book it! I still hope we get rid of Clownzo. Do you also hope we lose to Iowa in order to increase the chances of getting rid of CM? Im so torn right now, its pathetic. I just cant stand Clownzo but I hate to see my Vols lose.
