Auburn fires Gus Malzahn

If UT is thinking about letting Pruitt go and hiring Freeze, you can bet that Freeze is already aware...and you can bet that he'll put Auburn on hold if he thinks the UT job is going to be open. I don't think there's any doubt that Freeze wants the UT job more than any other. It just comes down to what the AD wants to do and if the SEC would block Freeze.

per ESPN - the consideration set. Would take any of these over Pruitt, no questions asked

Candidates who might be considered for the vacancy include Steele, Indiana's Tom Allen, Liberty's Hugh Freeze, Oregon's Mario Cristobal, Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin, Louisiana's Billy Napier, Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, former Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn and Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott and defensive coordinator Brett Venables.

Kiffin won’t leave
They’ve probably already gauged Freeze interest especially coming off a win yest.
Steve shouldn’t ever leave his assistants don’t do well on their own (Pruitt, Smart, etc)
Dan will be in the NFL
Tony and Brett shouldn’t leave until Dabo does
Surprised no mention of Tosh

Here’s my thought, 21 mil is a considerable buyout, I don’t think you readily pay that and then go fishing and see what you can catch.
I believe you know who is going to replace him already!

AU has a puritanical streak.....CHF isnt far enough removed from his indiscretions for them, IMO.
Auburn wants to win, and beat Bama. That’s all they care about. They would hire Satan himself if it would produce those results. They will hire Freeze. We will once again miss our chance. It’s so Tennessee.

More like their boosters are willing to pony up a sh*load of cash to make the necessary moves. We didn’t have that here.
It is the AD’s job to have a plan and sell it to the boosters for their support. Obviously there is no plan. We need a competent AD to get our engine started.

Got this from an Auburn grad, so take it for what it’s worth.....

Sources close to the search say Liberty coach Hugh Freeze, fired at Ole Miss before the 2018 season, will not be a candidate. In addition to Steele, Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal and Louisiana coach Billy Napier have been the most frequent subjects of speculation.

Steele and Cristobal have been getting a lot of talk on the radio here (at least yesterday and this morning).

General thought is you don't do this unless you've got it pretty well sorted.

Unless you were just informed that your coach went berserk and shot up the waiting-for-Santa line at the mall, you don’t fire your coach until you have the successor lined up and ready to go.

—Unless you’re Tennessee, of course.
