Auburn coach out?

This slow motion firing just show the coffers can't handle the buyouts and new hire. The limits have been reached on the farm. He might survive.

They would have to shop for another lower tier winner with an oversized buyout on the next contract.

The boosters may be realizing it is no guarantee to find an upgrade without coughing up more than they want to spend.

Bryan Harsin rally at Toomers Corner about an hour ago...................That about sums it up
Rallying for or against?

I’d be surprised if they can find something in the next week to fire with cause. But insiders might have damaged the coach enough that keeping him isn’t a viable option. So Auburn probably terminates the contract and pays his buyout. Talk about a circle firing squad….

Every time a school goes through this it drastically reduces the list of coaches who might consider coming to coach.

It’s a double edged sword. You keep Harsin now, the recruiting will take a hit. Recruits now don’t trust his job security. Let him go and you’re gambling with an unproven coach.

$62.39 Million will be what Auburn has paid in recent buyouts when Harsin is fired. Here is a great article that explores the the legendary dysfunction at Auburn.
  • Terry Bowden: $620,000.
  • Tommy Tuberville: $5.1 million.
  • Gene Chizik: $11.09 million.
  • Gus Malzahn: $21.7 million.
  • Bryan Harsin: $18.3 million.
First and 10: It’s not you, Bryan Harsin. It’s simply The Auburn Way

Check out this article on Saturday down south. Tells you all you need to know about how AU operated its FB program.

Penalty SDS - 15 yards - piling on!

Just kidding. Interesting article that portrays Harsin as a “no short cuts” guy with character and the victim here. It’s tough to square that with the allegations, but I guess we will see.

LOL at Saban complaining about coaches paying players through NIL (also in the attached link).

Imagine being willing to sack two head coaches and the guy you want to replace them is…..Kevin Steele.

😂

At some point you get who you can get when you can get w/a history of chewing up Head Coaches like Tuberville, Chizik, Malzhan, and (maybe) Harsin and a very public big donors/AD power struggle.

If you're an established winner like a James Franklin, do you want to jump from your situation to a program like Auburn?
What about a hot up-and-comer who has options? Billy Napier didn't.

So maybe you take a flier on a coach w/some warts like Hugh Freeze. Judging by the Bruce Pearl situation, the AD's Office is certainly willing to overlook a little cheating (or a lot) in exchange for wins.

I'm feeling MUCH BETTER about UTKAD dysfunction after this nugget

TBowden really got the shaft for his 'undefeated season' there under NCAA penalties.

True. Auburn boosters have so much power the administration should just let them pick the coach. Of course the boosters are never accountable if the hire goes south and they are more likely to pull the trigger and hire someone else at the first sign of trouble.

Ironically makes only slightly less now than then as the lowest paid coach in FBS.

So... I went and dug up our numbers for comparison...

Phil Fulmer $6M
Derek Dooley $5M
Butch Jones $8.26M
Jeremy Pruitt $0.00
TOTAL $19.26 M That is $43.13M LESS than Auburn has paid out during the same time frame. I agree with you, I do feel better after running the numbers.

Auburn doesn’t care about Harsin’s character, they care about wins. They in all likelihood knew the deal when he brought her in with him from Boise. If Auburn beats Bama this never comes up. When boosters want someone gone it’s easy enough to dig up some disgruntled players and get them to throw up some headlines.

I laugh at a lot of articles about the character of these coaches, it’s rare to find someone that’s a great coach and has high character also. Richt is about the only one I can think of off hand in the last few decades.
