Auburn bans student for Vescovi comment

Sure you would hope someone would punch him on the arm and say "knock it off dumbazz" - anywhere, the arena, the frat house, or spring break at PC beach.
His problem is he shouted it in a very public place - the wrong place, since Auburn has their own international student-athletes, students and faculty. AU has to protect their image - jokes aside - and the kids xenophobic remarks had to be addressed. Pretty simple, really.

I didn't ask for Webster's definition. I asked for your's.
I just told you. It’s racist to believe that other races are inferior to yours. That is all racism is. Making fun of someone, being against affirmative action, pointing out flaws in other cultures, being supportive of enforcing immigration laws etc are not racist. You can debate each point or policy like an adult, without running to scream racism at every little perceived slight or insult

TN better not ever beat Bama again in football. It's going on nearly 15 years, but we don't give a damn about the state of Alabam, we're from Temnessee.

Let me give you some context, and I'll end with this. My parents grew up in a segregated Clarksville TN. I've witnessed racism, by anyone's definition. My experiences have taught me to filter out a lot of b.s. as far as that's concerned. I can't lend credence to anyone trying to tell me what constitutes racism, because they haven't experienced it, choose not to acknowledge it, or don't want to be called out on it. Are there some folks who cry racism, sure, but that doesn't minimize it's existence. Or instead of accusing someone of pulling that card, why not have a discussion ? I'm not going to get into any of the topics you listed above on this forum, but I would be more than happy to discuss them with you and bring verified stats to give you my perspective. Racism is a problem. You may want to take a more holistic view of your definition.

Prejudice and stereotypes doesn’t always equal racism. Ok so you saw some racism in B.F.E. Tennessee. So what? True Racists are idiots. But just because someone says something stupid whether they are white or black (just like Jeremy Banks) doesn’t make them racist. It makes them idiots. I prefer to laugh at people who think they are self important and get emotional over other people’s words. That is called a lack of emotional intelligence and is a weakness. Someone could sit ranting on a street corner about Jews taking over the world or how whitey is killing black people and I still would ignore them and shake my head in pity because they are ignorant idiots.

When he said it, he probably did so without thought, thinking he was being clever. He was found, and banished from the arena. I doubt he meant any harm, he just didn't think things through. And now he's learning to think before he speaks. Personally, I think getting banned from the arena is severe enough to help him learn his lesson.

This would never be punished if the CBS mics hadn't picked it up on the broadcast.

I find it ironic that your statement is the textbook definition of "lack of emotional intelligence".

It’s not racist, but it’s certainly xenophobic. He’s clearly a person that thinks ‘if you ain’t from here then git!’. Sadly , this seems to be a common worldview in our country these days

If you scream stupid stuff at people you should have to own your words. Free speech doesn’t translate to freedom from consequences.
Some people have such a hard time understanding this. And I bet quite a few of those same people are in the Shut Up and Sing crowd when it comes to artists voicing an opinion that doesn't jive with their own.

Our country accepts more migrants than any other every year. By far. Nearly 3x as many as number 3. We also accept more refugees for resettlement than any other.

Xenophobia is the hatred of foreigners. I can't conclude that the Auburn student suggesting that Mr. Vescovi leave America is hate. Maybe he's just concerned of his skill level and is afraid that Barn and Bruce will struggle to defeat him in basketball over the next 3 years.

He didnt use obscene language.
He didn't threaten violence.
He didn't yell "Fire!" or anything else that might have incited a panic.
He made a statement that governmental authorities deemed unacceptable and was punished for that.
