I don't want to be so negative, but we need a home run hire to revive this program. I just don't see it happening if we don't get Gruden. This is our bama moment and it seems to be slipping past us. R.I.P may be accurate unfortunately, just for monetary purposes.

gruden imo is out, bc hart didnt want the program to live or die by him... its a catch 22...give gruden the world and live or die by him(but it gives the program a chance)...or dont and die anyways. those 3 home games are duds....man this is going to be a nightmare.

the deficiencies the dooley staff did in recruiting for this year will handicap the next coach...a big name hire will save it.

This is the problem with the Grumors. Any new coach is an improvement on Dooley and fan enthusiasm should be up next year no matter who we get. But because the Grumors got so out of control, we could bring in Vince Lombardi and a large group of people would be mad he wasn't Gruden.

"We've had more UT stuff on clearance than I've ever seen, and I've been here for 10 years," Sports Seasons manager Ronnie Dove said. "There are about five or six big names being floated around that could boost sales and take some of those markdowns back up."

Thursday morning, Dove received a call from an apparel buyer who told him that if a big-time coach is named — say ESPN broadcaster Jon Gruden, for example — 95 percent of the UT clothing on clearance at the West Knoxville store no longer will be on clearance.

Sales for Big Orange merchandise could use a lift. For the past two years, Dove said Alabama and Florida items — separately, not combined — have outsold Tennessee items 2-to-1. "If we don't get a big-name coach, it would definitely affect us even worse than now."

Those are very hard sells if you bring in a crappy coach. Hart maybe out of a job next year if something miraculous doesn't occur. People will pay to see us play crappy teams and even pay to see us lose to great teams if they care. The problem is most fans don't feel like the AD gives a damn about a successful football program and they are not going to pay to see a program with no commitment to winning.

There are more choices than live or die by Gruden, or just die. There are other coaches who could be successful, so there is always the choice of "hire someone else and be successful."

Sorry but I am tired of being mediocre and we needed this big time hire and apparently Hart has screwed it up due to his own EGO. Unless we get a Patterson or Fisher I will not support UT athletics....sick of settling for mediocrity....I have been a hardcore fan my whole life and now I feel betrayed by our AD if these reports r true...
