Attendance Is Way Down

87,758!!! That is utterly hilarious. Why does UT continue to lie about this?

There was no where NEAR that many people there this weekend. They lie about the numbers, we know they are lying about them, they know we know they are lying, yet ... they just keep lying. Is this some hodgepodge of "tickets sold" or a few little kids that spun turnstiles for 30 minutes, or were they counting the cops, vendors, staff, janitors, and tailgaters around the stadium?

My non-scientific and liberal guess was $75-80K. I also never noticed the game attendance being announced this week either. I'm sure that reduces the snicker factor when they fabricate rediculous numbers like 87,000+.

Can our government / agencies not tell the truth at any level? Ken Lay wants to know. :-D

87,758 is probably tickets sold + everyone in the stadium that is working. Fan wise - I would say there was 82,000 in attendance. It was a better crowd than I expected actually.

I've seen the stadium look worse on television than that. I was expecting fewer people, tbh. I don't see why people are complaining about 82k showing up in attendance. Yes it's 20k under capacity, but so what? It's a sell out in 90% of stadiums around the country. We played a bad opponent after going 5-7, 7-6 and 6-7 the last three years. Give it time.

My only wish is that people would STAY longer when games are closing out. If everyone gets up and leaves halfway through the 3rd quarter... the traffic is going to be just as bad as if you left at the very end.

I've been to 21 games at Neyland (band + student) and there's nowhere else I'd rather call my home away from home. Get some pride and tickets. Sit your butt in a seat and bring friends with. Attendance will go up.

When I was in school there in '94 I had a buddy that was in the athletic dept. He let me pick the attendance for one game. I picked the attendance the Thurs before the game.

The announced attendance has no relation to the actual attendance.

For 2 people.

Drive to game -> Buy a bottle of liquor -> Scalp Tickets -> Go to game -> Drive home.

Could be done easily for $100 - $150 bucks.
Yeah, now you need to add in the cost of a hotel. I have to do that anyways since I live more than 5 hours away (and a season ticket holder)
It is true. It was a non-conf. game, Washington St.
I was one of the people you pre-counted.

The product is not worth the cost. Plenty of businesses fail every day for this same simple reason.

Also, the previous AD sold out for the corporate dollar. He got a big cash flow on the front end, but the long term impact to attendance and gameday merchandise sales will be evident for years to come.

Back in the day Tennessee was the type of team that brings in big crowds.

There wasn't a day when Neyland would have over 90k for Buffalo on a fall break weekend. Back in the day...Neyland didn't even have 90k seats.

80k is still a big crowd.

So, Oregon's stadium is bigger than UT's? I think you better look at that chart again, and read my quote again.

Nah, he's just talking percentage over capacity. It's easy to go over when your capacity is a little more than HALF of Neyland.

My original quote was:

I heard a comment this weekend that something like only 11 college stadiums in the country could hold the attendance UT had Saturday. So yes, I would tend to agree with you.

His stats had nothing to do with that.

No offense, but you're insane. A full tank of gas is $65 by itself. So I EASILY have $35-$85 to spend on 2 tickets, plus food (for 2), plus drinks (for 2), and anything else? What planet do you live on?

You must be single. Have a wife and take her to the game, let me know how that "no food and sharing a bottle of extremely cheap liquor straight in the middle of the street" thing works out for you. Not to mention, sitting in the first seat under the Jumbrotron.
