I've always wanted to eat at a Brazilian Steakhouse, and we got reservations at Fogo on Jan 1. Anyone been there?

I can't believe this hasn't come up yet for those staying in midtown.
The Vortex, it's on Peachtree St. between 7th and 8th streets. Great, great, GREAT burgers. Massive beer selection, they have their own brew (laughing skull)
The Vortex
The original location is in little 5 points, but out of towners more than likely will not be staying there.

Best beer bar: the Brick Store over in Decatur. Worth a trip over to Decatur if you're into beer at all. Outstanding, constantly rotating selection.
Agreed! The food was delicious as well, and it has that "pub" atmosphere. Wish I lived closer, though it is close to my cousin's house.

Actually, the original Vortex was located about a block and a half away on W. Peachtree. They had to move with the construction of the new Federal Bldg. Still, an AWESOME burger!

This looks great - I'll have to go there next time. The beer and burger menus are really impressive. I enjoyed reading the rules too; a no BS place, just what I like.

I want to go to that Brazilian Steakhouse next time, too.

Anything recommended in the Decatur area? We plan to stay there and ride the Marta in to the Dome.

I live on Decatur Square now. There are some great pub/resturants there such as Brick Store Pub and Taco Mac.

Keep in mind that Brick Store Pub is a Belgium Bar and can be a bit pricey. A lot of Decatur bars are pretty high end. I don't recommend it for the Budlight/Natty drinking crowd.

I think everyone here is failing to mention this will be NEW YEARS EVE. Plan on everywhere being crazy!

Anyone know any place that will be good on New Years Eve (mid 20's to early 30's age)??

Also, anyone know if it will be safe to leave a car overnight? I plan on driving there and taking the MARTA home. There will be a lot of drunk driving that night so make sure to not be one of them and be careful! I recommend the MARTA to all who will be drinking. There are plenty of cabs too.

Anyone that is going to be in ATL on the 30th. The Ga Aquarium is running a pretty good special for the Chick Fil A Bowl Fans. Check it out on the aquarium web site.

I'm staying at Hotel Midtown. Good location/hotel? Not very familiar with Hotlanta...
Posted via VolNation Mobile
It's a former Wyndham hotel. Good hotel, great location. I used to live about 4 or 5 blocks away from it. The Vortex is about 3 blocks away too, (if youre going there). My wifes favorite breakfast place is opposite corner of it on Piedmont and 10th(The Flying Biscuit Cafe) dunno if youre into it but they serve 'cage free' eggs turkey bacon turkey sausage.. it's good just isn't my thing. if you want a good Diner for b'fast there is the Majestic. It's a couple of miles away, and you get to pass a Krispy Kreme.:)

Brick Store, Twains, Leon's Full Service, Taco Mac. The 'historic square' is the place for restaurants and bars. Google away!

The Belgian bar is upstairs. Downstairs has a fine selection of mostly American microbrews (plus, you know, Guinness). It's no more expensive than anywhere else that serves drinkable beer. The Brick Store pub is pretty much the best thing about Decatur. (And I like Decatur a lot.)

Oh and a heads up for anyone going to the Varsity for the first time. If it's busy, figure out what you want while your in line. If you get to the cashier and you say oh i don't know the next thing you hear will be 'NEXT!'

The Varsity's Chili-cheese-slawdog + greasy fries + coke + Goodies = best hangover cure ever! Bloody Marys made with Whisky Willy's is also a must unless you have to drive home.

If you want the best Cajun food you've ever had, try Gumbeaux's in Downtown Douglasville. A bit of a drive but well worth it. Try the Buffalo Shrimp for an appetizer and the Roby Ribeye and Seafood Chowder for dinner. Then you'll never leave Atlanta. Get there early. Lots of other folks like to eat there.
