If the coaching staff hyping up Pearce wasn't enough to move the needle, perhaps these words from quarterback Michael Penix will be.

"[Pearce is] a baller," Penix said. "He's gonna make a lot of plays for us. I can't wait to see him on Sundays. He brings intensity every day.":

And from recent reports, he seems to like fighting at Falcon's practice so he likley don't take no rookie crap from anyone.

They drafted another Edge rusher with their 2nd pick too...Atlantas pass rush is gonna be nasty. As a Panthers fan, I hate the franchise and hope they suck. Will be pulling for Pearce to have a big year though.

Yeah, the Falcons got through this draft in fine shape. First time they've drafted competently in a minute. THey were prone to draft Titans style for a bit. Being from not too far down the road from the ATL, I was a Falcons fan back when a true fan thought Bartkowski hung the moon. And when winning a game was like getting your entire wish list delivered by Santa.

Penix seems to be a fine young man all around. Hope he always keeps that as part of his DNA.

Matt Ryan was a superb QB, but they never seemed to fully pick up all they needed for him as a supporting cast on O or D.
They should have won the Super Bowl. They managed the rosters pretty well during those few years.

That 28 point choke job may never be eclipsed...in a Superbowl anyway. They were still up like 24 at halftime right? Just unbelievable. I hate Bradys guts too...it was like letting cancer come back to win. Just made me want to puke.

If the Falcons would have taken the play clock down inside 5 seconds and predominantly run the ball from the middle of the 3rd quarter through the entire 4th quarter, they would have won in a blowout

Shanahan's coaching cost them the Super Bowl. Also the running back wiffing on a block that led to a Matt Ryan fumble led to the change in momentum.

Pearce was their second pick, Jaylon Walker was the 1st pick. He is currently out with a hamstring injury. They traded up to get Pearce.

Don't forget Alfred Jenkins, William Andrews, and Lynn Cain. Billy "White Shoes" Johnson after he left the Oilers. I remember they were playing the Cowboys and Bartkowski threw an interception and leveled the defensive player who did not reenter the game

Jenkins/Andrews/Cain/Bartkowski. Legends of my Falcons youth.

Stanback got a lot of PT in those years. Was often a starter

I'm sure you remember Dave Hampton too
Yes. Though he and Stanback had slipped my mind. Prob had the same reaction to them picking up Johnson at WR as I did them drafting Pearce and Walker in same draft. Billy J was a huge get in those days even if he was winding down his career in ATL. I would visit different CoC congregations around ATL in my youth cause I had many friends I had met at church camp in NC over the years. Wasn't uncommon back then in his retirement years to see Andrews helping serve communion at the Sandy Springs church.

Interestingly, Lynn Cain in retirement, has given back extensively to the JUCO he played for in LA before USC. He has served as their head coach, and has returned since COVID to revitalize the team yet again. The only titles the school has ever won has either been with him as a player, HC, or in other capacities associated with the program. He's been successful there yet his name has never surfaced that I recall to move up coaching ranks.
