Athlon Sports Ranks UT #37

I like you, pard. I post because I'm just tryin' to converse with the commentariat regardin' good ol' hard whackin' football contests and topics. It's the greatest game in our great land.

It seems to me that you aren't trying to "converse" about various topics. Every thread I have seen you post in seems to be about tradition despite the topic at hand

As noted, such has been sufficiently resolved, and you can expect much better behavior from this ol' rusty nugget from here on through the county line, pard.

The rankings should be intended for entertainment purposes only. I say that after seeing ND (Somebody roll the video of fan stealing Lou's ND hat!) ranked in the top ten and Illinois ranked in the top 50.

I wouldn't be too hasty, pard. The University of Notre Dame just so happens to be one of the most storied programs our nation has ever seen. Hell, they have the third most all time wins behind the University of Michigan and the University of Texas.

Notre Dame has a Swiss Cheese defense. 8-5

When they lose to Michigan and Michigan State again, Kelly's scalp will be in play and Irish faithful will wish they'd hired Fulmer when they had the chance.

I'm sorry, but ND at 6th is a joke. I'm also skeptical of UGA being in the Top 15.

Tradition-rich schools do not stay down forever. Oklahoma was down for years, USC was down for years, Alabama was down for years. They all bounced back.

We already have a pretty decent rivalry with Notre Dame, so that is already established. As far as Oregon is concerned, we'll see how things stack up in 2013.

This is the closest perspective to the point I have tried to emphasize in this discussion. Traditional powers are recognized as such because their peaks are higher and more sustained and their valleys are more shallow and less frequent. We have home-and-away series coming up this decade with Oklahoma, Nebraska and Ohio State. Those are all matchups that would be described as "bleeding" tradition. Right now, Oregon is a better team than any of them but a Tennessee-Oregon game doesn't carry quite the same marquis value simply because Oregon is a relative newcomer to national prominence. The fact that we are down obviously doesn't help either. Tradition per se is no predictor of success in the short term, other than to say that teams recognized as traditional powers have been more consistently successful in the art of winning football games than programs that do not receive the same level of respect.

Most certainly accurate in my book, pard. Suggestin' that a fanbase is disrespectin' tradition by assessin' matchup in the near future is indeed asinine. I think we've all deduced that much at least.

It's worth almost nothing on the field. Off the field it is worth something, but even then the net value is greatly decided by recent success. All the tradition in the world but no recent success depreciates the tradition.

See: Tennessee

Ok, so I think I get your position now, pard. Y'all deserve the respect of y'all's tradition, but a squad with more deserves little respect for theirs. Is this what you are tryin' to say?

Are you planning on staying around after we kick your teams azz?

Most certainly, pard. The vast majority of y'all have been nothin' short of polite and cordial to this ol' codge. Most of y'all seem very knowledgeable and insightful regardin' this great game. Hell, I'd have to be borderline batty not to want to tap into such a resource.

LOL.

You crack me up.

If you were polite yourself you would stop using the word Pard in every post because it has been asked of you multiple times on here. You don't stop using it because you are trying to get a rise. I find that amusing.

What kind of cars you sell by the way?

I sell mostly fine European imports, pard, but I sometimes deal in luxury imports from other nations as well. Just no Detroit messes.

As for my usse of the word pard, I believe I explained very early on up here on this address that it's a bit of an undiagnosed case of polite tourettes syndrome, a tick, if you will. Sometimes I can control it, but most times I cannot.

Cool Ashley.

I have a question. What imports you sell Ashley? Lotus? Ferrari? Porsche?
