SEC Unit Rankings: Comparing Athlon & Lindy's | Bleacher Report

Tennessee - who didn't rank atop any of the individual unit rankings - but had the best combined score when they were all put together in both Athlon and Lindy's.

The results were quite unexpected:

Athlon Lindy's
1 Tennessee (20) Tennessee (31)
2 Florida (21) Florida (32)
3 Georgia (29) Auburn (36)
4 LSU (34) Alabama (37)
5 Auburn (39) Georgia (37)
6 Alabama (46) LSU (38)
7 South Carolina (47) South Carolina (46)
8 Mississippi State (54) Mississippi State (60)
9 Ole Miss (60) Ole Miss (62)
10 Arkansas (61) Kentucky (74)
11 Kentucky (63) Arkansas (83)
12 Vanderbilt (72) Vanderbilt (88)

I think we are a very balanced team

This lays a nice foundation for either of two arguments that will probably be made by Fulmer haters: (a) if the team succeeds, it is because anybody could coach the most talented overall team in the SEC; or (b) if the team falters, Fulmer must be a real bone head to lose with all that talent.

Let's see how the combined rankings for each unit plays out when it matters....at the end of the year......It is quite interesting, though.

That suggests a solid overall team. Fulmer's coaching ability's will neutralize that,ha. Sorry i couldn't resist.

What's most notable to me is that Athlon has our D line at #3. If they actually play like the #3 D line in the SEC, as likely as not we'll be in Atlanta in early December.

Nice, especially when you consider these writers aren't considering Warren and Williams who could come in and help immediately.

So actually some of the fans on this board that have stated that we will be in the SEC Championship game may not have orange colored glasses on after all. There is some basis for their optimism....Good for them:thumbsup:

the difference in the rankings provides no relative value information, so the rsult is nearly meaningless. Additionally, the spreads are nearly nil. Finally, certain rankings are worth far more value than others.

playing Arkansas, because Petrino is such a good coach he can win the west without any talent

This doesn't factor in the margin of difference between ranks. It is assuming equal stratification of performance between rankings. That is a big problem, considering the difference could be huge between 1st and 3rd.

for a second there I thought you had something useful to say, then I realized that yo're apparently too stupid to avoid wasting your precious time at 2 am by reading something that you don't want to read.

Maybe you should spend your time in the endzone talking about what you might wear tomorrow.

It's interesting that both have us as the best overall team based on rankings (whether they meant to or not) but both have us behind UGA and UF (and pretty much consider us 5th in the SEC overall trailing LSU and Auburn as well)...

So if they think we have the best overall units (as their rankings say) then they must really think we don't have the coaching or mental toughness to actually be the best

Bingo give this man his prize we have a winner. Yeah your dead on with that assumption. Only one guy can change it and you know who he is.

We can cut it, slice it, analyze it, dice it, and deep fry EVERY aspect of a football team. When it is all said and done, we settle it on the field.

It's a don't care. The author made clear at the end of his article the point he was trying to make.

Does this mean the Vols are the best team in the SEC? Not necessarily, as any preseason Top 25 will attest. However, it would suggest that - at least according to these numbers - even though the Vols have no positions of total dominance, they also lack any glaring weaknesses.

Yep there is enough talent there to to finish better than most of the publications and pundits are claiming
