Athletes (split from Hurd thread)

One more things. He struggles on Long passes because he waits until the wreciever is completely open and turned around. Deep balls you throw before the wreciever turns around. His best pass was to josh Malone on the right side because he threw before the play developed. Everything is about seeing things before it happens.

This is great insight, thanks Travis. Post more, you bring an element to VN that's not found anywhere else on the board.

It's amazing the type of ATHLETES we'll be trotting out of the field next year.

Josh Dobbs
Jalen Hurd
Preston Williams
Josh Malone
Jason Croom
Cam Sutton
Justin Martin
Darrin Kirkland Jr.
Jonathan Kongbo

Those are all guys who'll blow up the NFL combine when they come out.

Malone? How is he ever gonna get a combine invite? Thought you said he was one of our no-talent trash WRs.

VFL34 bring in' the WOOD of insight...MUCH thanks Travis.

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on our running attack this year. I think we are in for something REALLY special, but would love to read your take. Also, have you spent any time with Jalen & Alvin?

I'll hang up & listen...

Please begin.

I'll wait.

You've only been on here since early last year and most of your predictions involve things that have yet to happen......you haven't had a chance to be proven wrong yet.

Obviously, the one big one that has come to fruition where you were so unbelievably arrogant, condescending and cocky was North going no later than the 4th round.....after saying there was absolutely no way that he would declare for the draft because he wants to go to law school.

That being said, beyond your predictions, you're routinely wrong with nearly every post regarding how Dobbs is the best QB in country, how Hurd is the best running back in the country, how Stephen Griffin is a stud and likely starter at safety this year, etc, etc. While Dobbs and Hurd are outstanding and Griffin does have very good potential, none of those are true.

We're gonna win back to back national titles in 2016 and 2017.

Here are our first rounders:

2017 - Dobbs, Hurd, Sutton, Barnett
2018 - Wolf, McKenzie, Tuttle, Martin
2019 - Kirkland, P. Williams

Others with first round potential: Coleman Thomas, Austin Smith, Stephen Griffin

I won't include the 2016 recruits yet since I haven't seen them play in college. However I could see one or two from this group (Kongbo, Guarantano, Byrd, Callaway, Warrior, and Tatum) developing into first rounders.

2017- Barnett yes and maybe Sutton. Neither Dobbs nor Hurd

2018- Wolf is not first round talent. The others definitely are, but talent alone doesn't guarantee it. Bama's 2 stud DTs this past year were first round talent who weren't picked til round 2.

2019- first round type talent, no way to know where they'll be picked.

Others- Griffin can't get on the field right now.

No. There were a lot of guys he missed wide open last year in film. Some plays when he would hit a guy for 6-7 yards, someone was streaking on a post wide open 30 yards down field.

Second question on this. Do you think there is a receiver he has better chemistry with than others? His "go to" guy so to speak.

No, this can't be true. I've been told on here that our WRs can't get separation.

I hope this makes sense to some of you.

It makes total sense and thank you. You put into words what many of us see but can't explain as well. Hopefully Dobbs works on that and we see it this fall. Everything else about his game is what makes me glad he is a Vol and represents the school.

Definitely Kirkland IMO

He kind of had a slow start with the coaches dicking around at the LB position, but turned into a pure beast in the second half of the season.

I can't wait to see what he does this year.

I think they unleash him under Shoop. I think he ends up All SEC at the end of the season.

only first rounders from Tennessee next year will be...
1)cam sutton
2)derek barnett
3) maybe jalen hurd but most likely 2-3 rounder he needs a big year if he can start breaking away from defenders he can sneak in the 1st round.

if dobbs get drafted thats a big if will be a late round and a team just taking a chance on him because how smart he is.

That's a pretty good way of putting it. We have a few guys who are really good at the technical detail aspect of things.I mean good enough to pick up the subtle nuances of what is happening.
But even the majority of the board, if unable to communicate it or put their finger directly on it, are astute enough fans that they can still see something is just slightly off.
Even the tiniest of details.

Agreed, I think Sutton and Barnett are locks for 1st rounders. A lot has to happen for Hurd to creep up there, but not very likely. Who knows with Dobbs, Tim Tebow was taken in the first round, so anything could happen, but I definitely wouldn't bet the house on him being taken anywhere above the 4th round.

Let us not forget that this trio of running backs, Hurd, Kamara, and Kelly, is probably our best since the late 90's, Lewis, Henry, and Stephens. Kelly is somewhat forgotten but he's going to show out in 2017 behind that experienced offensive line, after Hurd and Kamara declare.

Also, for VFL34, keep bringing in the knowledge. Every time you post, I read carefully and appreciate it. Truly great insight!

Exactly. Some on here actually do know the game well enough to see what is happening. The team and staff are getting better and better each year. Everyone of them still need improvements in some areas when you break it down.

This year should be an interesting year for the RB draft. You have Fournette, Chubb, Michel, Hurd, Kamara, McCaffrey from Stanford, possibly Perine from OU, Cook from FSU, Freeman from Oregon, Gallman from Clemson...among others that could declare.

Lots of choices this year for those that declare. I'm not saying Hurd isn't a potential 1st rounder, but like you, there is some stiff competition. Depending on the situation, I'd almost advise him to wait until after his senior year and let his stock go up even more.

I don't think Hurd's draft stock will be lower due to his talent, IMO he is just as talented (outside of Cook) than the rest of those guys. What's going to hurt Hurd is that the rest of those guys will get a ton more carries than he will due to us having a 1-2-3 punch in the backfield.

I think you will see Cook, Chubb, Fournette, all taken before Hurd.

I wouldn't count out Perine as a potential 1st rounder either. Provided he's also got Mixon in the backfield sharing carries, but I wouldn't sleep on him.

And I honestly believe McCaffery goes 1st round or high 2nd. There's a lot of hype with him.

Like I said, it's a bumper crop year for the RB position.

heard that Gaulden kid was legit....

seriously though, we have a stable of athletes, too many to list-- I didn't even see Berry on the list who owned special teams last season.... ALL good stuff here and glad we are arguing over how many we have instead of wishing we had...

Great so it is in Hurd's best interest to come back another year... problem solved!
