Lawsuit demands US remove 'In God We Trust' from money | Fox News

I've seen some posts saying, "it's been on our money forever, so why change it?"

But it wasn't.. Due to the perceived "godless" nature of the Soviet Union, it was added as a sort of McCarthyism in 1957. Identical reason to "One nation under god" being added to the pledge in 1954.

If we're truly a secular nation, which we've aspired to be since 1789 when the Constitution was ratified, then it should be removed. (JMO)

Thoughts?

Why does it bother them? It's the same thing with prayer at games? Does it really affect them in any way? Why are people who proclaim tolerance so intolerant of others?

I'm an atheist who thinks it should be removed, but I wouldn't get involved in the process. It's not nearly as important as other issues.

However, I don't think you'd be too jolly if your money said "Allah" "Krishna" or "Zeus"

Or if your school had muslim prayer times recognized.

Or if your kid had to salute to "One Nation Under (insert any god other than the Christian one here)"

So if we placed in lucifer or Allah we trust on our currency and prayed to either of them before games,

Would you be cool with that?

I wouldn't care. It already has weird symbols like the pyramids with one eye. Are you against that too?

The only thing backing our currency is our trust in our Government. Of the two, I'll trust in God.

Your quoted 1954 amendment is inaccurate. "One nation" has been incorporated in the pledge since its inception. The word "nation" was capitalized in the 1954 change, but the only addition that year was the phrase "under God".

I really don't care either way. You guys would be a lot more cool if you were live and let live types. That being on the currency has no effect on you whatsoever. The tact to take would be to let people have their illusions as long as it doesn't negatively affect you. But in 21st century America everyone has to have something to get their panties in a wad over.

Well said. Atheism, a religion all its own.

I feel like you're missing the point.

Our government should remain neutral towards any and all religions.

Militant atheism is its own religion. No different than any other group pushing their beliefs on others. No different at all.

If they would also support banning Federal employees from getting paid time off on religious holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, then I could at least say they are being consistent. I still wouldn't agree with their position, but I would at least respect their position.

1. Would you be opposed to removing it from our currency?

2. Do you think Jesus/god of the bible would want that on the currency?

Those aren't explicitly religious holidays. Not like Passover, or Good Friday or Ash Wednesday, etc.

Personally, I don't have a problem with "God" on our currency, as long as it isn't endorsed to a specific "God".

Atheism is the absence of belief. We can put whatever vague belief we want on currency, and as long as it doesn't violate the establishment clause of a specific belief, it shouldn't matter. I simply don't have to believe it. It really isn't hard.
