"That team was not better than us. No form or fashion, no way possible," Alabama defensive end Wallace Gilberry said. "If they were better than us and we had lost by 30, it still would have hurt but not so bad."

We could have said the exact same thing last year.

so, losing to a team that's not better than you makes you less of a loser???

or does it make you just a BIGGER loser???

I NEVER understand the "They aren't that good" line of reasoning. It's like the fans that chant OV-ER-RATED at the end of the game. Logically it means that your team isn't that good either. It's just dumb.

Either our defense gained about 2 years experience in 2 weeks or Bama's offense sucks badly..

I don't know what it looked like in person, but on TV it looked like John Parker Wilson was a couple more hits away from Purple Heart consideration. As the game went on, his throws got worse, his feet got slower and he became a little gun shy. At one point, it looked like he was taking off and running almost every time he dropped back to pass.

Yeah, I think the crowd really got to him in the 4th quarter but the secondary really tightened up too.

Well, at least the trolls will go back home and we'll hear from them again in around 355 days. I bet they'll have one more national title by then too.. :the_finger:

Last year we gave the ball away twice. I didn't see Alabama giving us any gifts this year. Last year, it took a miracle for Tennessee to lose, and this year it seemed to take one to win. I think we were legitimately the best team both years. We flat out beat them in the fourth quarter and if they can't handle it, they won't improve as a team, and we'll keep winning games year in and year out like they used to.

Well, I don't think anybody really expects a football player to come out and say another team was better than his team, true or not. I'd be mad if a UT player did it. And not to take anything away from my Vols, but Bama DID lead for most of the game and to have victory snatched away in the 4th quarter had to be a bitter pill to swallow.

Seriously! They were giving Bama all the breaks. Bad non pass interference call, that catch Meach had should have been a first down (go for it on 4th down dont get it) the pass to Smith towards the end of the game (the ball was across the line) and probably others I'm forgetting

I guess he missed that unimpeded hit (or whatever the penalty was) on the 4th quarter punt that gave UT the ball in bama territory. if his team were "better" they'd have the discipline to not take cheap shots like that.

Alabama's offense is horrible. UT was lucky they were playing Alabama. Anyone else would have probably put up more then 13 pts on UT's defense.

I'm concerned abotu LSU and Arkansas. UT can't play the same way on offense either of those games and win.

Having Swain injured hurts a lot. They can double team Meachem. and Ainge has to throw a lot to B Smith. Coker brought a lot to the game too. I hope its nothing serious.

:lolabove: Seriously!! By the end of the game, Wilson's jersey was so green from grass stains, it looked like he had his practice jersey on!

I agree with you whole-heartedly on the pass interference call and my whole soul agrees with you on the Meach catch on 3rd down. It was so obvious he had posession for the 1st down and not his momentum, but that of the defender carried him back across. As far as Smith's pass...at first I was screaming TD...then OMG..incomplete pass..and then finally on one last camera angle..you could tell he bobbled the ball..but it didn't hit the ground..however...he didn't gain control again until the ball was back outside the endzone.

Hey, Son, we were good enough to beat you on a day when we were playing at our worst, and you guys were playing one of your best ballgames this year. Remember that before you run your mouth, Wallace. 16-13!!!!!

Well I wouldnt say beat the crap out of us...

Well, at least the trolls will go back home

No I'm still here.... :)

It's not you played the worst game, you just played an Alabama defense. I do agree that are offense was lacking, but then again that's what playing a UT defense will do to you as well.

Players are going to be mad and say crap, so are people when their team takes a loss.

I dont buy the best team lost stuff myself. UT is a better team than us this year no doubt. We have LOTS of growing up to do that for sure. Maybe we'll grow enough for next years match up. :)

Peace.

Bama's defense was much better than I expected, and our offense looked sluggish after the bye week. Our D made a big leap from the first half of the Gawga game, and welcomed JPW to the TENN/Bama rivalry in a very physical way and the best team won, period.

this is why beating Alabama is so great, espeically in come from behind fashion:
"it still would have hurt but not so bad"

all i can say in response is, yeah, we know....we were there last year...and look at it this way...we did our best to give away another game to Bama in the 1st half, and you still couldn't close the deal. TN 3 turnovers. Bama 0....how many times does that equal a Bama Loss????? I love it. It was ugly....but i love it. and for 1 year, all i can say is scoreboard.

I never buy into the best team lost stuff myself. Are you arguing the best team as a whole, the best team that day...what's the validity of ever using that statement. On any given Saturday, the best team in an SEC matchup, for sure, will win. Even if it is a teams only win. Should a clearly superior team ever lose, such as us and UGA did to Vandy in successive years. No. But, on that game day, the better team won. If we go 11-1, on that day we lost to UF, they were the better team then. All said, Bama was much better than expected IMO. Similar situation to us. If the O could measure up to the D, it would be lights out. That's saying alot about our D considering the improvement in our O this year.
