With Coach Barnes and the Vols at 4-0, the future is bright. Rick Barnes takes young men and develops them into true winners. What he accomplished with last year's team was a wonder to watch. Coach Barnes has built upon that success and added players, some of whom are stars, others who are unheralded. Looking over the schedule, our Vols could go 12-0, heading into league play. The biggest challenges are probably Cincinatti, Wisconsin or Florida State. This is amazing and fun to watch.

I don’t want to be “the downer” however I hope people/fans can remain positive when losses happen.

Everyone is on cloud 9, as we should be, but I have this feeling some folks may start to think the sky is literally falling when Tennessee starts to have some L’s.

This team is playing great, and are probably better than most of us thought; however losses are coming. Tennessee is very thin down low, fouls or injuries could be bad. Also Tennessee is shooting really good, and probably will consistently throughout the year........but there will be games when the shots aren’t falling.

Hopefully it will be a great year........but even if it’s just a “good” year.........that’s good.

Tennessee has a great coach, some really good players, more good players coming, and a great system in place.

I’m just hoping we can keep up the positivity when things aren’t going so great......as it should be at least “good” regardless.

Illnesses as well. I think that down the home stretch of CRB's first (or 2nd) year the whole team had the flu.

Good point

I didn’t even think about that. Almost every year, there are major players from different teams who miss due to illness.

Yea that could cost Tennessee a game or 2.

Tennessee is pretty darn good (I think) but any “problems” could certainly cause losses.

On another note, I thought the time JJJ spent at the point Wednesday, he was very good. Smooth, just glides along. Yet, he has another gear he hits when he needs to do so. He looked confident.

So far, I think this team has exceeded the coaches' expectations as well as the fans.

But still lots of roles to be defined from the bench, and grown into on the court. We've also yet to experience playing from behind in the second half, or playing under end-of-game clock pressure.

I only have radio, so I could have missed this: have we run a full or half-court press on anyone yet? Have we played with our small lineup yet? If so, did we look competent, or did we become less productive?

You nailed it right on the head bro, its been really nice with the start we have had but we are crazy if we think we are better than last year. I will admit i havent seen too many teams that look super impressive and as kentucky found out...anybody can be beat haha. Lets take it as it goes and watch these seniors go to work. Stop talkimg about next year when we are losing two awesome players in turner and bowden. I think we do have a good team and should be top 25 throughout the season but big men such as Azubuike and those will kill us. I love supporting the vols from lubbock where these guys think tech is the best thing ever but we know who has the longest home streak!! Go ****ing Big Orange and beat the hell outta Missouri!!!!

I'm not sure about the "big men will kill us" statement that was continually thrown around before we played Washington. Held our own in that game against impressive big men.

Sorry, not gonna happen. Just win the next game. UTC is the only opponent that matters right now.

I think Tennessee will be 16-2 going into the Kansas game on January 25th with losses to FSU and Cincinnati

Cincinnati will be an interesting game. I'll be at that game and I'm looking forward to seeing how the Vols handle it. UC has not looked like world beaters so far this yr and just yesterday trailed Illinois St for most of the game. They're going through a little turmoil right now when their star jarron Cumberland was benched for one (admittedly meaningless) game for disciplinary reasons. i suspect that'll be far in the rear view mirror by Dec 18th. They also have their first new coach in over a decade and the jury's still out on him. It'd be a fantastic road win for the Vols but it could go either way. We get the Bearcats in Knoxville next yr

It would be great if the BasketVols were 17-1 going into the Kansas game

As I mentioned in another thread,,, I appreciate the good start and I know how fortunate we are to have Barnes as our coach,,, I also know we have some stark weaknesses under the goal that so far have not been exploited. If we are going to go very far this season we will have to have extraordinary play by our guards.

The problem with depending on perimeter points as your bread and butter is the certainty that there will be games where the outside shot just will not fall and unless there is a dedicated go to in and around the basket that can be depended on the the points simply will not be there.

What are you talking about? We know this is not our year. Right now he is just spooning us gravy and we are lapping it up.

Absolutely not. Love the start we had but no way.

If we go 8-4 I'll be happy. 9-3 estatic.

Anything better and Barnes should be up for CotY again.

I think we will be 8&0 going to Cincinnati, May lose that one. Will be interesting to see the Xavier vs Cincinnati game the week before we play Cincy.

You have not seem Memphis (Floppin Tigers) play then, even without Wiseman they have a lot of 5 star talent? I don't think they will go 12-0 probably 10-2. We have the advantage is early games because of our experienced senior guards.
