Before ASU a look at La Salle...
We outscored them 24-2 for the two game series and we didn't play all that great.
Maddox struck out tonight for the first time this season, 30 At Bats.
VJax has still not struck out this season through 30 At Bats and he's walked a team high 12 times.
Houser, on the other hand, has struck out 13 times and walked once in 29 at bats.
We come out of the first 12 games batting .318 as a team, the team ERA is 2.15.
We are tied for 2nd in the nation with a +6.0 scoring margin.
We are at 10th in the nation with 8.6 runs per game.
Defensively, we are 12th in the nation with 2.6 runs allowed.
We have the longest running winning streak, dating back to the final game of last season, at 13 games. We rank 5th in home winning streaks.
Our RPI is 51 and we are 12-0.
#24 ASU (6-4) - RPI 71
Arizona State is riding a four game winning streak and are coming off a big win against Oklahoma State, who they beat 6-1. Of their four losses, all came against programs that have winning records currently. They won their opening series with Baylor.
In short, they've played a much tougher schedule and they've been off since Sunday.
It will be warm, if not hot. It will be raucous and it's our first road game of the year against what has been traditionally a baseball power house.
The Vols will leave early in the morning for Nashville, will board a plane for a four hour flight. They will practice at 7PM (9PM est.) tomorrow.
Last year we lost the series in Knoxville, but avoided the sweep. The two we lost by a combined 9-1...shows the pitching they had and we'll see that again.
Drew Stankiewicz (Jr.) is a their SS and he's been a good player, batting .350 currently. Watched him this summer as well, briefly a team mate of Will Maddox in the Cape Cod League, briefly because Maddox wasn't there long before taking off for USA baseball.
Trevor Williams and Brett Lilec combined for a shutout in game 1 last year. Williams is gone but Lilec has pitched 14 innings this year with an ERA of 1.29.
Ryan Kellogg, another lefty, another guy I watched this summer, went 5 IP against us last year giving up 1 ER, no walks and 6 strike outs. He's pitched 16 innings this year and has a 4.50 ERA.
Ryan Burr, Eric Melbostad , Nick Diamond, Darrin Gillies are all guys to watch...
Sleeper: Freshman Hever Bueno
This is a very deep pitching staff with a good blend of experience and youth...can we hit them?
On the other side of the coin, they have some great hitters...RJ Ybarra (.375), Trever Allen (.263), Tucker Esmay (.364)...
In other words, we're going to have to hit the ball much better than we did last year. The good news...last year Quillen, Owenby and Eric Martin combined for the lone win and two of the three are still here.
This is what we've been waiting for, this is the test. The national writers are watching to see if we will pass. Winning this series would be a big step for the program.
I can't wait.
Friday: N. Williams
Saturday: Andrew Lee
Sunday: Kyle Serrano
Cox and H. Martin(healthy) 1st on in relief.
