Assassin's Creed: Valhalla

Yeah, let's not get crazy with the Tolkien comparisons. They might compare in what has been captured in video games/movies, but Tolkien literally wrote the book(s) on universe creation.

Witcher is based on a robust short story/novel world by an author who is building variations on top of Tolkien’s givens like most fantasy fiction. Then CDPR came in and added content as well. That is definitely a gigantic fantasy world.

With Elder Scrolls I feel like it is as large a universe as is possible in a game with 25 years of development by a hoard of content creators.

Not arguing quality of the fantasy writing of course. Tolkien wins that hands down. And his world is still as beautifully realized as any I’ve encountered even with the very black and white morality which a series like Witcher rejects.

I played through the first DLC Wrath of the Druids. It was....ok. Basically more of the same of the main game.

Makes sense since the game was also just ok.

I hate feeling this way about a Creed game too because I’ve always been such a fanatic for them, I just didn’t like this one. First Creed game I didn’t finish.

Black Flag was pinnacle AC. I bought Valhalla and I agree with a lot of what has said here. Feels like Aldi brand Witcher now. Just a few hours into it and I'll either trade it in at McKays or sell it. Not impressed.

Anyone playing the latest DLC? I bought it but have yet to fire it up because...kind of not in the mood.

I’ll never understand why Ubisoft didn’t just give us a full on Black Flag 2. That game was near perfection.

Black Flag, Rogue, and Unity are all actually pretty great. Black Flag is outstanding, and Unity now I think is great. It's problem was it was buggy as crap when it came out but once it got patched it's actually very good. And Rogue is super underrated to me, being able to play as a Templar and showing that just maybe it's not as black and white as "Assassin good/Templar bad". They shot themselves in the foot with that one because they released it the same time as Unity and they made it exclusive to the 360/PS3. I'll even add Syndicate to this because it was a step down but still felt like an AC game.

Those games were connected with characters and stories. Now the games are just loosely kinda connected and they've taken a very fantasical swerve where you play these games and it deals with ancient afterlife and gods and it's just.....not AC. And I even liked Origins up until the DLC.
