Assassin's Creed III

I can't wait for the expansion packs. The videos of guiding Lewis and Clark through the mountains in the snow are freaking sick. Not sure what the enemies are going to be though.

I'm not very far into the game but one of my favorite parts so far was the cinematic leading to the "How d'ya like them apples" achievement

Really enjoying it so far.

Doesn't really have that same Assassins Creed feeling to me, though. Feels more like RDR.

yeah, the wilderness and the hunting oddly brought about that feel

Ubisoft said that when Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption released mid-way through Assassin's Creed III's development, it was surprised to see Rockstar had included wild animal hunting and a giant frontier to explore—features both planned for its own sequel. News: Assassin's Creed 3 team 'looking at Red Dead Redemption success' - ComputerAndVideoGames.com

Similarities between Assassin's Creed 3 and Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption are down to "a convergence of minds", says AC3 lead writer Matt Turner.

Speaking to journalists at a London reveal event last week, Ubisoft said that when Red Dead released mid-way through AC3's development, it was surprised to see Rockstar had included wild animal hunting and a giant frontier to explore - features both planned for its own sequel.
Writer Turner told CVG Ubisoft's now looking at Red Dead's success and trying to take the formula in "new directions".

"I think it's a convergence of minds. When people are thinking about the same topic at the same time, they're bound to have some ideas come around at about the same moment," he explained.

"We'd been working on the animal and the frontier stuff and then [Red Dead Redemtpion] came out. We saw it, played it cover to cover, and it was less of an 'oh ****' and more of a 'aha! How can we do better than that?'

"Because that's something that Rockstar does - it always strives to be the best. They always try to push things in new directions and I think we need to do the same thing."

He added: "As a team we saw how good [Red Dead] was and how they had tonnes of success and we were like, 'OK, let's look at their success and see how we can take it in new directions.' That's what I think we've tried to do."

Assassin's Creed 3 previews went live yesterday afternoon, and you can read ours through that very link. We also published a pair of video interviews with creative director Alex Hutchinson and senior producer Francois Pelland.

I've had this game since launch day and I'm finally into it. I'm now on Sequence 5.

And yes the "How you like them Apples" part did shock me.

Love the detail in this game. I did some research and was able to find the Five Points in New York (unless you've seen Gangs of New York that won't mean anything to you).

Finished the main story last night. Overall I think it's the worst console AC of the 5. Conner is just nowhere near as interesting a character as Altair or Ezio. The money making in the game is so tedious compared to the other games, and honestly it felt like Conner was way worse at combat. The lockpicking of the treasure chests almost made me want to break something, and this game had more glitches than I experienced in the previous 4 games combined.

I'll give it a 7/10, but this will be the first AC game I don't do all the single player stuff you can do. I'm not going to bother trying chase down all the Almanac pages, find all the trinkets, treasures, etc. This one is ready to be traded in.

I think Ezio in his prime was the best character.

I agree with you about the current game, still like it though but definitely the least of the 5. I do like the background stuff that's in there about the Revolution and such......As for my preference, I still prefer Altair since he was the original bad ass. Ezio was cool, but Altair was the man who started it all so I gotta go with him. Not to mention, in the last game, being able to play as the 80+ year old Altair and still kicking ass was pretty sweet.

I think it's moving in the wrong direction. AC2 was the perfect balance between a linear story and some ingenuity in the way the assassinations play out. A new one has been confirmed so we'll see how it plays out.

I didn't like Connor but that may be because you didn't get to spend much time as him. Too bullish and just not like an assassin. He's pretty much a broken man by the end of the game.

Well I guess I lied, I just couldn't walk away. I'm now playing the rest of the Homestead missions and doing some of the collecting. I will say the Homestead stuff does make me like him a bit more, as it shows his more human side as he helps those who live around him.

One thing that really irks me is even after I've run the British out and now it's just colonial troops, they still attack me. I know Connor isn't exactly on the side of the colonists, but it's strange I clear out out a Templar fort controlled by the British and put up an American flag, only to be then attacked by American forces.

I just finished the campaign today and I think you are pretty spot on. I said earlier in the thread the weakest points of the AC series are the storylines, and this one was no exception. The story was terrible, Connor was not likable, and they definitely could have done a lot more with the Connor/ Haythan father and son thing. There wasn't even a final boss. Least favorite of the AC games. Brotherhood is still my favorite.

I agree about the colonial thing. I got tired of liberating a fort then getting attacked by the people I just handed the fort to. And the game was super glitchy. There was one point in the frontier where I tried to do an air assassination and fell right through the bottom of the map. And I don't know how many times I called my horse and the icon appeared but no horse.

There was plenty of good to this game. Worth the money and I had a ton of fun playing it. The frontier was an awesome place. Driving giant ships was awesome. But I hold AC games in very high regards and compared to the others this one didn't live up to what I had hoped for.

I wish I had waited and bought this on PC, seeing how is it mainly a SP game. Would love to see this on my desktop, plus I love the UPlay (Ubisoft) layout for PC.
