I've just been to a few parties friends had. Not really sure if there a head honcho in this area or not. Their stuff is ridiculous over priced. But the few things I've bought I love. Never understood the love for the stones though.

Behr, what's your favorite tool in the kitchen (excluding knives). I love my dough scraper when I'm doing lots of chopping. I know I have too many gadgets that just take up room in the kitchen. I'd like to pare down the stuff I have.

RV has a new instant read digital thermometer she uses all the time. Loves it. Cuts out the guess work and all her meats are done perfectly everytime!:twocents:

RIP my wireless one that I loved so dearly. And the cheap walmart replacement that didn't even make it through 2 uses.

I can't count the times I've wished I had one....WHILE I'm cooking. I never think to look at them when I go out. Is there a particular brand or model that works best?

1. Taylor Instant-Read Thermometer
Taylor is known for their thermometers, and with good reason. The company offers several high-quality instant-read thermometers from basic analog to professional digital. All have shatter-proof, large easy-to-read dials. The basic model reads temps from 0 F. to 220 F., suitable for most home cooking applications. Includes recalibration feature.

I bought this $20 one for RV and she loves it. Her mother bought her a Taylor model that was over $100 and she never uses it.

Thermapen with the orange splash guard cover, ftw!*

Since I make my own bacon, sausages, etc, I need a precise temperature reading while doing a minimum of damage to the meat so I don't lose the juices. I've used all sorts of digital thermometers in the past. After wanting one of these for years, I finally got one for my birthday last year, and I don't know how I cooked without it for so long. It is not cheap, but it is the best I've ever used, gives me quick, accurate readings while poking the smallest little hole in the meat, I just love it.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I have the orange Thermapen with the clear splash guard, so the orange shines through. :)

I'm making the honey soy salmon tonight, with kale (bit of garlic and crushed red pepper wilted in olive oil), and boiled yukon gold potatoes. I guess I'll mash the potatoes (hand masher, sNp, milk, butter). Would you add anything else to the potatoes or no?

the best non knife kitchen tool is a wooden spoon...because it serves a dual purpose as Mr Blister for the kids

Yes I would, but that doesn't mean you should. :)

I don't have kids and Behr is a good boy. Obviously Knives are most important, but a nice clean kitchen towel has to be in the top three.

And it's probably not something I have on hand.

I don't have any on hand either, but for the next time, I think some feta cheese in the pots would compliment the soy Salmon and the kale. Might not sound like it, but I trust it.

did you freeze the kale?

LOVE feta! I'll try it next time.

Won't have enough kale to freeze. I've been adding it to my eggs in the mornings. I seriously love this stuff.

When I took the salmon out of the fridge (marinated for 15 minutes) to put it on the pan broil, I wanted to eat it so bad it was crazy. I'd give anything for some good sushi right now. But dinner's ready so I'ma go eat. :)

Oh! And the gadget I'd buy before anything else is the little silicon handle sleeve that I USED to have and it has disappeared! Where in the world did it go???

I used my new big ass electric skillet tonight and was impressed. Plus, cheaper than using my gas.

When my wife makes fried chicken she uses that and hers is excellent. Okra too. Ours is non-stick so it's less messy to boot.

Roasted garlic would be nice. :)

Note to self: need silicone coated tongs for my non-stick pans, silicone handle sleeve for my cast iron skillets.

I get a lot of ideas from this thread. :eek:k:
