"Ask A Hawkeye" with 3YardOut

Is there any talk of replacing him?

The entire fanbase is in an uproar and wants him gone. AD signed the him to the worst contract extension in history, it would cost multi millions over several years to be rid of him. It ain't happenin for awhile.

Hope no one takes offense, but I can't stand rocky top.:ermm::whistling:

Not offended. But please refer to the Clark Griswold soliloquy from Christmas Vacation where he blesses out his boss for the jelly of the month gift to get a sense of how i DO feel.

More than $6M? That's what it cost us to get rid of Phil Fulmer.

$5M? Derek Dooley.

Man what a great question! I think it's part recruiting, but mostly I think it's Kirk Ferentz' ultra conservative approach to coaching. He's known for keeping his timeouts as if they carry over to the next game. Often takes a knee to end a half even when he has timeouts to burn. Also, Iowa is very easy to scheme for. A zebra can't change it's stripes and neither can Ferentz, apparently.
Ferentz believes his gameplans are always top quality and it's just a matter of players executing.

Welcome to the board. You are funny, if somewhat of a negahawk.

Their fan classification is noted by their school colors. Optimistic fans are yelloweyes. Pessimistic are blackeyes.

Is that Poke a dance victory song played a lot during the game? Sort of like our Rocky TOP?

No only at the end of a game. If victorious.

IIRC, the PC administration tried to ban it once cause, :)beerf:) That didn't go over so well.

I'm looking forward to the bowl game. I think all Iowa fans are excited to play an SEC team steeped in rich tradition such as Tennessee. We just felt that with our weak schedule we had an opportunity to have a much better record.

I am not one of the Ferentz haters. We are Iowa. We have a low population within our state and we typically have 5-10 guys that can play high level D1 football. We aren't going to be able to out-recruit other teams and we have to rely on player development over the years. The only thing I disagree with Ferentz on is his inability to unseat other players that have done things the "right way." Prime example of this is Ruddock. I think Beathard has a ton of upside and has one of the strongest arms I've seen in a long time but he doesn't get a chance to play unless Ruddock goes down with an injury.

This year's team has good interior DL, very poor LB play, average in the secondary. The offensive line was supposed to be great but just hasn't come together. Scherff was a monster his Junior year and people thought he was going to dominate but he injured his knee and had to have a minor scope a week before the ISU game. The guy is tough as nails as he didn't miss any playing time but clearly wasn't the same player. I hope he has a chance to fully heal up with a month or so to prepare for the bowl game. He is a real road grader when he's clicking. Overall, the OL has been very disappointing and we have struggled to generate a run game. We use a converted fullback who is big and strong but very slow for an RB and he has missed holes all year. The QB is very average and he will always take the conservative checkdown route rather than make a big throw. We routinely throw to receivers well short of the first down marker on 3rd downs. He has missed many open opportunities downfield. I would say the WRs and TEs are decent when given the opportunity to get the ball but our offense just always seems to be stuck in mud. I'm sure we will have some huge special teams play gaffe against you guys so keep that in mind.

CJ Beathard is from Tennessee and his dad writes country songs for a lot of big artists. I think his grandpa was also a very successful NFL GM. I think he is our only guy from TN. He had offers from Iowa and Ole Miss. I think he has great arm strength and has shown good mobility at times. I wish he had a chance to play but he will probably transfer after this season.

I have linked the highlights from the PITT game if anyone is interested. CJ Beathard comes in at halftime and sparks a comeback.

Good luck in the bowl game!
