Wow...is that what you call being a witness and sharing your faith?

I don't care about his faith. His or anyone else's faith doesn't matter one bit to me; and I feel sorry for you that apparently it does.

I listen to ClayNation here on 104.5, but even though i like him he made a complete idiot out of himself yesterday. Asking Tebow if he was a virgin in front of the entire SEC Media cast was not a good idea.

I am positive Clay couldn't care less about what those people think of him. He does just fine for himself.

This guy is a fan and not a real journalist, even if he does have some little one-night radio show and a self-published book about his favorite team--awwww. He shouldn't have been given credentials to cover the SEC media event. That's not to say that the real journalists are rocket scientists, or that this got can't be interesting or entertaining at times, but the fact is, he's an amateur. Thankfully, he's not as bad as the gay escort who wrote opinion pieces for some 5-cent Republican web site (long gone) and managed to persuade the Bush communications office to give him White House media credentials--and ask a question at a nationally televised news conference! One of many little insights into the bush administration.

Not to mention he was in the internet/radio room when he asked the question... which he definitely has a legitimate claim to credentials in there. Seeing as he has a radio show and has worked for CBS Sportsline and currently works for AOL Fanhouse.

It could be worse. He could've asked Brent Schaeffer in 2004 how long he'd been a black quarterback.

Maybe so but, I do enjoy Travis' stories. He is entertaining and a decent writer.

I agree he is not a Journalist, or a reporter. He writes for entertainment.

Exactly. Which is why it's funny that so many feel the need to bash him as if he's trying to interview for a job with the AJC or Sports Illustrated. Who cares if he's Chris Mortensen, Lewis Grizzard or anyone else for that matter?

He obviously doesn't and I'm sure he's laughing with all of the obsessive coverage his question received. With that being said he's introduced himself to the sports journalism/reporting world beyond his work with AOL, Sportsline, Dixieland Delight, and even good ole DeadlyHippos. And Tim Tebow wasn't surprised beyond the fact that it took this long for someone to actually ask him.

I'm sure he recognized the potential backlash for asking the question. There are plenty of "professional" journalists who aren't opposed to him asking the question. Then again, we all know how important Chris Low, John Adams, and Dennis Dodd are and how consistent they are with their professionalism and expert journalism. Phew...

Anyone who reads Clay's stuff knows that he's mentioned on several occasions how he'd ask Tebow this if he ever got the opportunity. He's obviously a bit enamored with the man and not asking this question because Tony Barnart probably wouldn't approve isn't something I think he concerned himself with.

I'd say roughly 8 out of 10 people who are bashing him will also be reading On Rocky Top in a couple of weeks if not already.

Pretty good publicity for ones self with a book on the horizon.

Kudos to Clay Travis.

As I said in another thread I think a lot of these reporters are upset with Clay is because they can't believe he has more readers than they do for there articles.

Is there real reporting in the book about the very obvious failures of Fulmer in recent years or is it mostly a puff piece from a UT fan that only UT diehards will like?

He chronicles the 2008 season. I doubt he speculates about in recent years outside of last season.

Most sports journalists don't "report" in the traditional manner because its not really news, its simply passing on observations about a product. They know that if they write in a reporting style, they'll get their access to the team/players cut off. You see these guys on ESPN or radio all the time who sit there and criticize a player or a coach and then when they interview them a month later its just a bunch of softball questions for the fans.

First, I appologize for co-opting a thread about an interview but I felt compelled to add my own commentary. It kills me. I've tortured my eardrums and brain listening to men who want to be taken as serious journalists ramble on after the fact that they could not ask the hard questions because (1) the interviewee or his/her publicist made it known in advance that such questions would not be answered and (2) the interviewer would burn a bridge thereby depriving the listening audience of the opportunity to hear/see said interviewer genuflect to the interviewee and not ask him/her hard questions on some future occasion.
