I know I'll get wrung out like its nobodies business...

but I do miss the old SEC regionalism.
I used to make fun of Bama as much as anyone for not giving up the Bear and relatives... but there was something special about having all our coaches be fans of our team.

I'd love to know CLK loved Tennessee as much as CPF.

I bet Florida fans are just crushed that Urban Meyer doesn't have the connection to Florida Steve Spurrier did. Alabama fans are probably suicidal that Nick Saban isn't one of Bear's boys like Mike Shula.

Excellent article. I could care less what other fans are thinking or feeling. This seems to be an intimate perspective into UT football and a good read. Some posters remind me very much of my ex wife....wasn't happy if she wasn't bi%^&ing or moaning about everything. Nothing is good enough. STFU already, your act is old. Here's an excellent quote (which the above poster referenced a fine thought from) from the interview:

"I think that does take away what has, to me, always been unique about SEC football. That it’s a game played for and coached by Southerners. That’s becoming less the case now. We pluck away guys who are very talented at what they do, but are they really of us? You can love or hate Phil Fulmer, but I say in the book that if you’re my age he’s an awful lot like what the men were like when I was growing up. Like our dads."

I think he's completely on the mark. Good or bad it's an end of an era and it deserves to be recognized. Personally I'm ready to return to the glory that is TN football. To do that Fulmer most certainly had to go. I, like many others have grown tired of making the 3 hour trip east on Fri/Sat to have the team I live an die with embarassed by those of lesser schools. By lesser I mean anyone we face. I'm tired of reading the constant stupid repetitive drivel of those bashing Fulmer, a man fired months and months ago. Shut your dumb @ss pie holes already it's over. I for one am ready to return to the days of having beers with dear friends on gameday, walking the strip and high fiving other Vol fans with the attitude we are about to stop a mudhole in ******'s rear end today! I am ready to return to that fast walk to the stadium to make sure I got to my seat by kickoff to watch us dismantle the crap that is South Carolina football with little worry. I want to return to the days of replacing pictures, glass panes from my table, and patching drywall in my living room from by God as they should be victories over Florida, Georgia, and bama celebrations from watching away games on TV. Let's raise some hell! Let's win some games! Let's kick some @ss again! What do you say??!!??!! GO VOLS! Most of all......let's do it together! Go Big Freaking Orange!

I won't even consider reading this until next year because I still got Fulmer Fatigue. Plus this guy could only think of a virginity question to ask the best player in the league. Interesting interview though.

Clay Travis is to College Football coverage what John Stewart is to Political coverage.

And if timmy is going to parade his Christianity around for everyone to see, it is perfectly acceptable that he is asked questions like this.

I'd say it's more that professional journalists are annoyed with amateurs asking moronic questions at media days. Clay Travis is to SEC coverage what Stuttering John and Downtown Julie Brown are to Super Bowl Media Days.

Maybe so but, I do enjoy Travis' stories. He is entertaining and a decent writer.

I agree he is not a Journalist, or a reporter. He writes for entertainment.

Good article. I'm sure being around the team and the coaches in 2008 was tough on a devoted fan trying to write an objective account.

Particularly interesitng to me was the bit about taking the bus to play UGA in a "must-win game" and basically seeing the players lock up with anxiety over it because of the pressure to win.

Most sports journalists don't "report" in the traditional manner because its not really news, its simply passing on observations about a product. They know that if they write in a reporting style, they'll get their access to the team/players cut off. You see these guys on ESPN or radio all the time who sit there and criticize a player or a coach and then when they interview them a month later its just a bunch of softball questions for the fans.

...think, and I don't always agree with everything you post, but 99% of the time your posts are witty, informed, informative, and worth reading...as in the above (albeit I like Travis).

I don't have any problem with Clay Travis. I'm just saying he's on the same journalistic plane as Steve Colbert.

I like Clay Travis, i like that he is a vol, and he is not ashamed of it. His book dixieland delight was very funny.
I think the question he asked TT was funny yesterday.
He does radio here in nashville on tuesday nights and it is usually pretty funny.

I listen to ClayNation here on 104.5, but even though i like him he made a complete idiot out of himself yesterday. Asking Tebow if he was a virgin in front of the entire SEC Media cast was not a good idea.

It's too bad that most other journalist (See Tony Barnhardt) are saying Travis was way out of line.

Not sure how he has media credentials still...

Hell, if he can get them I need to apply to get them...
