It really is amazing that more mens and womens coaches don't get along as well as our two do...

Give Pearl credit. Knowing that Summitt had won six national championships before he arrived in the spring of 2005, he quickly made friends, even attending a Lady Vols NCAA Tournament game during his first week on the job.

Then, when a recruiting weekend popped up a couple of weeks later, Pearl quickly asked for Summitt’s advice.

“Bruce didn’t have a place to live yet, so he had no place to entertain his recruits,” she recalled. “I told him to bring them over to my house. We had all the guys and girls come over at the same time, and I think we both had close to 100 percent commitments that weekend.”

This is great seeing those two work together...Unbeatable combination and just two class acts...By the way, Coach Summit is a hell of a cook.

Entertaining article. Having the different programs coexist so well makes me prouder to be a Vol.

Didn't know the UConn coaches disliked each other. Hard to believe anyone would hate Geno.

Good article, OWH. I am really impressed with the interaction between the two programs. Summit and Pearl seem to have a great deal of respect and admiration for one another. I can't wait for the season to begin.

Great read. 2 very high class individuals that have the same goals. Too bad CPF can't learn from these 2.

It's great to see professionalism out of both of our basketball programs,I wish some of that could transfer over to the football program.

I most definitely think that it has benefited both programs that these two have interacted together like they have. I also think that it is going to continue to help and before too long our mens program will be close to the level that the womens team has been in their respective sports.

Pearl was smart enough to know that by embracing the women's program, he would be elevating his program and not downgrading it. I remember when he first got here, and they asked him when he would hold practices, he said he would have to wait on Pat Summit to get her time first.

Very smart move. I didn't know that. At least he came in knowing to show proper respect to the greatest college coach alive.

These two are so confident in themselves that they don't show jealousy toward each other. Lot of kudos to Bruce for embracing the women's program, and Pat for not getting jealous when Bruce became the most popular guy in town.

Think about the time Pearl has arrive in UT, our Mens team went from a joke, to #1, and contending for SEC Titles each and every year. And Summit has won 2 titles, and 3 #1 seeds....I think the combination of them both together has made each program a lot more successful than without each other. (not saying summit wasn't utterly amazing before pearl, just saying she prolly had her best teams in this span.)

Far be it from me to comment on women's basketball, but Holdsclaw, Catchings, Randall et al are laughing at the assertion that the last three have been Tennessee's best teams.
