This pretty much nails it. Hurds decision may cost him, but the antics and constant talking by his step father is costing him much more. His step father is costing him his character. The more Arthur talks and threatens the more his future employers will associate Jalen as being entitled, spoiled, and a whiner.

The smartest move Jalen could make is to silence his step father and those like him. Focus on achieving whatever it is he is putting his mind too. And achieving them.

Kids, never believe the hype.

Work hard and show people with your production that you have earned the right to be considered one of the best.

Jalen had 5 star-itis and it cost him.

I don't have a problem with a kid leaving and going elsewhere. It happens. They're young. Change their minds. Kids change schools all the time without publicity because they aren't famous athletes.

That being said, leaving in the middle of the season is a bad look. Gotta be there for your team mates.

Why I think labeling 17 year olds with stars gives them pre madonna status. I mean you got kids making rap videos and selecting their school in limos. It's stupid.

Hurd quit on the team and nobody was either able or willing to stop it. It is a shame for him and for the Volunteer football team. He's not the first and won't be the last. Hopefully, somebody learns how to handle it better In the future.

A talk radio station here in Chattanooga had Arthur on the air telling Jalens side of the story and he wouldn't let anyone get a word in. It was definitely kind of weird the way he was going about telling about all that went down. I feel like if i was part of the family i would keep all info in house and not go about the way he is doing it, jawing away about a kids future.

Leaving in the middle of the season is probably the worst thing Hurd could have done. NFL (hell CFL) scouts aren't going to see this as a positive. They don't like quitters.

Depends on how big a pre Madonna were talking. Could be just Carly Simon or Karen Carpenter level. For extreme pre Madonna, we're talking Diana Ross, or for skill position players, maybe even Brenda Lee.

Never underestimate stupidity. Looking at this from every angle I can not understand Hurd's logic. He has ruined his reputation period. He can't play until 2018 and with idle time on hands look for more bad press. Since he did this in HS as well the pattern has been established. Let's say he over comes that hurdle, his history and problems with injuries is very disturbing. So at the end of the day look at my first sentence.

Well, football is a contact sport it's the risk you take when you sign up to play. Just like people who play baseball or golf risk shoulder, back, and elbow issues. You can't complain when you get hurt since everyone knows the risks before they play. I would say his step-dad never fulfilled his own perceived potential and is now living vicariously through Jalen. It happens all the time at lower levels just a bit surprising at the major college level.

Keep in mind the ruination was doubled when his mouthpiece said he's not a RB any longer, abracadabra please and thank you, he's now a WR/TE!!! Someone advising this young man needs their fingers broken, their jaw wired shut, and a psychiatrist.

a lot of mis-information,....butt covering,....white-washing of truth going on. Sounds like he got mad and said "I quit," on the sidelines. Previously said he was in pain during games but oddly no film of medics, trainers attending him at UGA or SC. Concussion story is cover-up for suspension for T A-M game. Ran his mouth off at CBJ during practice and possibly hit CBJ in back with ball(?). Had no plans to transfer prior to team meeting on Sunday evening,(10-30), at which time he was voted off team, (permanently ?). Transfer story is a white-wash. IMHO I'd like to see him suspended for the rest of the year. It would be better for all involved. Too much of a tradgedy and a waste plus he needs good counseling. Oh I'm sure others will rail against my view and i don't blame you but it's a way of saving face in a sincere and compassionate manner. Kid's problem is he's self-centered to a fault and needs to bring himself down from that pedestal. Needs to develop a new attitude. Probaly too late for all I've said. It's a shame IMO.

I bet you are correct. I think Jalen just popped off at the mouth too many times, became unpopular and found he was no longer welcome among teammates. Seems more like a forced resignation.
I don't see Jalen as a true 'quitter'. I do think he made typical immature teenager blunders, got himself into a very compromised situation and thought he had no place to go. Plus, I think he recognized he is not being used correctly for some time and wanted to force a change.

Football is not for everybody. NFL guys on average have very short careers. Any players future can end on one play (Marcus Lattamore). I think he may have said something he probably regrets and it will change his future. Hopefully he gets a degree, matures, and has a productive life.
