Article:Coleman Interview

Whomever wins the job, I would hazzard to guess the coaching they will have received will make them look much improved from the season passed...

Absolutely. I still firmly believe that Kiffin and Chaney have the Coaching ability to turn one of a pretty good, but rough, trio into a very good passer.

Coleman seems to want it most. Something tells me that with Kiffin's stance on hard work that Coleman's drive will take him further than raw talent or seniority.

I know CDC was high on him but I can't believe he ever said those words.

It's not Cutcliffe, but I have heard Doug Matthews say those exact words on several occasions. He said Coleman is the best High School QB that he has ever seen.

I don't take Matthew's words as gospel by any means. Just throwing it out there.

The fact that BJ probably got less than a third of the reps in practice all year makes his first pass out weigh his interception when he finally got to the game.

Am I wrong on this?

I'm reserving all judgement of BJ until half-way through this upcoming season.

With this article and some other things I've been reading here and there, the change was needful. Colman puts somethings in perspective and I look forward to seeing what these young men will do with some good coaching. We may not win the east next year but I think they are going to in the discussion all year.

It's amazing to me that the discipline and conditioning were allowed to drift so far from effectiveness without the media calling the program on it...

Actually Pendleton did last year. He posted some anonymous former player who noted lack of intensity in the weight room and other similar issues. This caused a huge dust up in the comments section. Nothing more ever came of it.

If you look at the replay of the pick Bj threw the reciever apparently didn't run the correct route, after the pick it showed CPF chewing the reciever and as Bj walked by fulmer just slapped him on the head. Simple miss communication, not really a bad throw

I find your post absolutely impossible since all CPF ever did was clap when a player did something wrong

Coleman noted that during the first team meeting with Lane Kiffin, the new head coach informed the players that they would no longer be allowed to wear hats indoors or listen to iPods once they step into a classroom. Even earrings are no longer permitted on campus for the players.
According to Coleman, showing respect for coaches, professors, fellow students and even one another is being stressed more than ever.
“The new rules are things that always should have been there, in my opinion,” Coleman said. “It’s those type things you can take into the real world, and they also help form leaders. We have real genuine leadership now, and you’ll see the difference come game time.”

I like B.J.'s chances on the field and in life in general...

It's refreshing to read something like that -- because it confirms most of our suspicions about the lack of focus/discipline/effort that Fulmer's teams were displaying.

Fulmer was a great coach, but he (apparently) was not well respected amongst the players.

If players are coming out this season and admitting that the attitude/focus/energy/discipline is better than it was, then they're making a clear statement.

I'm not someone who lives in the past. I'm glad we're headed in the right direction, and i'm glad our players are evidently buying into the new system of "work hard, or leave!"

Whether Coleman is our QB next season or not -- he's an A+ in my book.

He's clearly a UT guy; he loves the VOLS; and I know that he will work his ass off for this team.

By the way, i'm not from Chattanooga or anything, i'm just really impressed with this guy because he knows he's probably not going to see much more playing time the rest of his career -- and he's still a UT guy through and through.

The part about Stevens not having the temperament for the job is maybe a little misleading.

I'd say it has to do with Stephens' meltdown on the sideline last year. He threw a pick and was too hot to go back in. I thought he was going to start crying and throwing Gatorade jugs.

disipline is necessary but imo college football shouldnt seem like the military. im not sure if these rules applied at usc but i guarantee they didnt at oakland. is he gonna take the names off of the jerseys too? ipods in class should be a no no i agree. hats & earrings are irrelevant. just tell them to be presentable & keep their pants pulled up.

What's your definition of presentable? BTW, I've never worked for the military, and I've never worked at a place where hats and earrings are permitted.

BJ definitely has his head on straight

He sounds like a very sharp kid. He knows the right things to say and the right way to act. Sounds like a young Peyton Manning. I just hope the coaching staff can get the best results out of him on the field. Interesting to see how this will turn out. He could be the next Peyton or the next Jim Bob. This is going to be a very intriguing year.

puff piece or not, i thought it very interesting his take on the new vs. the old.

the kid is a leader. if he has the ability some think he does.....he could be just what this team needs.

How exciting to see discipline back at Tennessee! Dont get me wrong, I respect what CPF did at Tennessee. Lack of discipline was the main culprit in the long slide to mediocrity for this football program. IMHO. My hats off to Lane Kiffin for bringing in a spirit of excellence and championship mentality back to the Vols. Winning championships requires that type of attitude. Thanks Coach Lane Kiffin for putting the Tennessee Vols back on the road to greatness!

Go Vols!
