I say let the guy get a year under his belt and let's see if he has serious potential
Wouldn't it be great to baseball be the next sport at UT to reach the heights of basketball and football
a dominant three major sport school is hard to find

basketball, baseball (in time..I get it), now what's this third dominant sport you're speaking of???

I'm just glad they did not get a big name since that may have indicated a potential diversion of AD resources from football. Got to keep that powder dry so UTK can afford a new hfc with some gravitasse.

you know your just setting yourself up for disappointment.

He should have contacted a couple of ex-vol baseball players like Todd Helton and Phil Garner. That should have been a given. Apparently he feels more comfortable contacting the Clemson baseball Coach. Not a good sign IMO.

Phil Garner could definitly recomend some good canidates........who would in no way leave a big league (or minor league) salary and pension. Same for Helton. It is unlikely they follow or have intimate knowledge concerning a college coach, at all. Plus recruiting, which is way more difficult than football or basketball coaches, would be a total learning experience.

A better plan would be contacting officals involved in the college game, which he did.

College basketball is a major sport in America, therefore contacting Grunfeld is explainable. Grunfeld noticed his body of work, knew of Pearl's passion and basketball knowledge, and was able to recommend him to UT. There just isn't the same interaction between college baseball and MLB. John Schuerholz couldn't recommend a college coach.
