Hey, guys. I know it's the heart of football season. I hope this post doesn't get lost.

I'm a reporter for a small newspaper in Georgia. We're working on a new magazine called "Where Are They Now?", and it will feature people from our area who have moved off and done well for themselves. In short, Armani Moore (hopefully that name rings a bell!) grew up in our area. I've corresponded with him on Facebook. He's been a delight to work with. Now I'm gathering supplemental information for his feature. I'm in the process of reaching out to his mom as well as his former high school coaches. I thought of VolNation because I'm a UT softball fan and spend time here because of that.

My question for VolNation is this: Do any of you remember watching Armani play for UT? Will you give me your opinions about what type of player he was? Don't worry, I won't be using names or even quotes from the forum. I'm just trying to get a feel for who he was to UT.

Also, if anybody has followed his career after UT and could shed some light on what you know about it, that would be phenomenal. I know he's playing overseas. I'd love to talk to former (college) teammates if anyone has any idea how I could do that.

I hope this doesn't make me seem unprofessional. I'm just trying to be resourceful!

I enjoyed watching him complete at UT. Was signed as a PG but ended up as an effective stretch 4. Was an explosive leaper and rebounded well against guys 6+ inches taller. IIRC, played football for a season after 4 years of basketball
Exactly how I remember him. Extremely hard playing guy who could jump like crazy.

So he was very much a contributor? Lots of times, guys from home land college offers and struggle to find their way on the big stage.

Yes. He was a good player his final two seasons.

His senior season the team wasn’t very good and he may have been a bit overshadowed with Kevin Punter scoring so much, but Armani was our best all-around player IMO. Offense, defense, leadership and hustle considered.

Good ball player. At one point I thought he could fly. Averaged 12 points per game his senior year. Definitely a VFL.

GO VOLS

An extremely athletic player who likely transformed himself and grew more as a player from year 1 to year 4 than any other we've had in the last 20 years.

He came in as a very lightly recruited guard from a tiny private school in Kennesaw, Georgia, and left as a versatile forward who could score from anywhere on the floor, and for his size, was an excellent rebounder and defender, as well. A hard worker and an intense player on the floor.

He wasn’t used a stretch 4. He was used as an undersized post player. He averaged one 3 point attempt per game for his career. Also Stanley Asumnu is the guy that played football not Moore.

If anyone tells you he shined early on they're lieing.

He did find his niche as an upper classman though and that's as a junk yard dog type.

IIRC he was asked to walk on to the football team his senior year as a WR or TE due to his athleticism.

I enjoyed watching Moore play and he was an athletic defender who could jump. He did not score a lot of points but was a glue type of player.

Good luck with your article.

Thanks for the correction on Asumnu. Maybe we have different definitions of a stretch 4? Mine doesn’t just mean a guy who just heaves lots of 3’s

The type of player you want to have on your side. "Struggled" his first 2 years (as in he didn't play all that much), but his last 2 were pretty darn good. Great rebounder for a "guard." Very high motor and athletic as all get out.

One word. Blocks!

I loved watching Armani time up a huge block. His type of story is why I love watching sports. Getting to see someone go from Point guard project to star of the basketball team, playing in the post, was something special.

he was what Vitale called "stat stuffer", rebounds, play d, touch/take a charge, score when needed...led Vols to a 20 point win against UK on a sub .500 team.
