Anyone else disagree with this?

However, the junior does present an upgrade over his predecessor in some ways. Vol fans will undoubtedly notice Crompton has a much stronger arm than Ainge, evidenced by his two bombs to Robert Meachem for touchdowns against LSU in 2006.

IMO Crompton is a little stronger. Ainge believed he had more arm strength than he did, plus, mechanically on deep throws, Ainge wasn't great.

I would not say that Crompton has a much stronger arm either. I'd say their arms are pretty comparable but the big difference is Crompton loves to air it out.

It's at best a push.

From what I have seen, Crompton does have a stronger arm. However, Ainge had a strong enough arm to throw the 15 yard out pattern with success.

Crompton so far reminds me of a "Bret Favre" type qb. A gunslinger who is willing to make plays with his legs and arm and will squeeze in passes. However, he has made mistakes before thinking he had the armstrength to "groove" a pass into tight coverage.

I see the comparison, but Favre's arm >>>>>>>>>> Crompton's arm.

I'm no doctor, but I've heard shoulder surgeries may affect the strength of someone's arm..

If this guy is judging arm strength on those two passes alone he shouldn't have written that.

Now crompton has a big arm no doubt but how much better who knows.

I wasnt making him out to be Favre either. I was just comparing the type of player he is. You dont develope that instinct without having a strong arm.

I think Crompton has a big arm, but citing 2 throws where he put it in the air and let the receiver run under it doesn't do a lot for the credibility of the journalist. I'd say most QBs in the SEC could have made those throws.

Crompton has the stronger arm and by more than most believe, one only had to watch the 2 of them side by side in pre-game warm-ups or in Cromptons limited playing time to see the difference. Cromptons ball has less wobble, less arc and arrives a second quicker than Ainges, this should be more apparent this season, as to whether this will make him a better QB remains to be seen, a stronger arm does not automatically make one a better QB.

The first was an accurate pass, but had nothing to do with arm-strength.

The second was a fluke. All Meachem. If anything I'd say the 2nd displayed weak arm strength.

I'll agree and confirm it with two words:

I agree with this 100%. I was watching Crompton and Ainge warm up in the last spring game and there was a huge difference. Crompton was throwing the ball with such force that it was literally popping out of the receivers hands. Now, I realize our receivers has been know to drop a ball or two, but this was not the case. I could not believe how hard Crompton delivered the ball. I am not an Ainge hater either. I thought he did a good job as the QB at UT. But, without a doubt I think Crompton has the stronger arm.
