Maybe Dooley wanted some of these coaches gone and they were not rats leaving the ship.... but negative freaks make us look bad and only want to see the side of the coin that fits there selfish negative agenda..

Maybe we can realize that we have graduated some of the thinnest calsses ever at UT in the past couple of years and just have a little patience

But, I gaurantee that this board and our unsettled fan base have been brought up in living rooms across the country, and in one case, the kid trusted what he heard and went elsewhere. Again, if you think this is effective in any way, let's make a concentrated effort to pretend to be pissed-off fans of other schools and scare away their recruits!

Sometimes thinking anecdotally helps people: If you were deciding what school to play for, would you include an analysis of the public message boards such as VolNation to make your decision? Even at 18 I wasn't that ignorant. I doubt you were, either (although you'll probably say otherwise just to argue). And if a recruit was that ignorant, isn't it a good thing you didn't get them?

The irony here is that by complaining about the negaVols, you're just adding to the noise. You have to realize you're not going to change anyone's habbits. In effect, this means you're just complaining for no good reason. Take your own advice.

As I said, it would take a particularly ignorant person to allow an internet message board to "pressure" or influence your choice of school to play for. Maybe you fall into that category.

the coaches jumping ship was the entire negative recruiting angle. The fans and Internet comments have nothing to do with it. The coaches are professionals and making judgments en masse. That's as telling as anything in the coaching world. You don't have to like it and our fans can gloss over all of the coaching leaps, but it was the piece that induced all of the negative recruiting.

I think you're wrong. A fan base drives many of the decisions of a program. The toxic aura that emanates from boards such as this, can take over and cause brash decisions to be made. The negativity here definitely impacted this year's recruiting campaign---with little doubt to that in the loss of Peters.

Bottom line---some of you anti-Dooley retards are going to have to eat a whole bunch of crow after this season. The man FINALLY has some depth---and you're selling a guy short for playing against the toughest competition IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY---with a team full of freshmen and sophomores.

A rational and intelligent assessment of Dooley should not, or could have been made about Dooley's coaching ability at least until the conclusion of the 2012 season.

You have to admit there are some pretty ignorant recruits out there and some of them are pretty damn talented.. You can't assume all of them are smart enough, logical enough and patient enough to figure these things out..

I'm not saying 'we the fans' 100% cost UT a particular recruit. However coaches and recruiters that negative recruit will use anything and everything at their disposal, including message board fodder, to sway a recruit..

I will grant you that he has lowered expectations enough that we're now talking about 8 wins being his saving grace. Awesome.

I never said that I made major decisions based on peer pressure.. I went to UT basically for free on scholly and was able to watch us win a NC and have a few beers with PM

I am just saying that many 18 year olds do get sucked into peer pressure.... Are you really so idiotic to think young people cannot be easily influenced...

How many adults got busted in the housing bubble just another fatality of peer pressure/ heard mentality

I completely agree that there may be a small population of 18 year olds who would allow a message board to alter their choice of college. I completely disagree that we should bother worrying about them.

I also think it is ridiculous for some of you guys to expect a post like this to actually change someone's posting habbits.

I support Dooley, but to say that this forum is responsible for losing recruits is irrational. Not saying people don't view it or consider it, but to decide your future based on an internet forum is silly. I'm pretty sure this has already been covered.

I know this is a discussion board, but this pissing contest is getting old.

I am just saying peer pressure happens and if you don't think it does you have a very very very sheltered life..

If UT happens to lose a game because of recruits that got drove away because of negative fans that does piss me off...

I'm a Tennessee Volunteer--born and bred in this GREAT STATE and dang proud of it! I will put our heritage and tradition as the people of this great state against anyone!

I'm also a believer in CDD...and he has more character in his little finger than that wuss Petrino! I don't know what happened to Peters but I don't care--IT'S HIS LOSS, NOT OURS!

THE Volunteer football program is not endangered by the likes of Santos and Peters defecting to other teams any more than it is by fans who get on Volnation and rant and rave against CDD...

There is no doubt that all of our SEC competition can direct recruits to look at our last two years and say negative things about our program and that CDD's days are numbered...But I got news for 'em all--WITH OR WITHOUT CDD THE VOLUNTEER FOOTBALL PROGRAM WILL RISE AGAIN TO NATIONAL PROMINENCE!

They can get on board or get left behind in it's wake!!! Now please let us cease arguing amongst ourselves!

GO BIG ORANGE AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR SEPT. 1ST TO KICK SOME WOLFPACK A**! :salute:

I believe that will be the number.. I've said that with a bowl win incuded (in the 8 wins). If he were to win 8 during the regular season and have a hard fought loss to good, ranked team maybe that gets him there to. Who knows though...

Am I happy about 8 wins (possibly) being the mark? Hell no but that's where we are at.. Do I think Dooley is the guy to lead us to our next national championship? Unfortunately no but he is what we have at the moment and I would really like to see the cupboard restocked with decent talent before a change is made. That way the state of the program will look more appealing to a marquis coach.. Not to mention the theory (a valid one IMO) that no good coaches wont to come to a program where they only get two years to pull it up to the expectations of this fanbase..

Please take this new-found recruitment technique and use it against our competitors and help scare away their recruits from them with message-board negativity.
