Arkansas State----- "Cupcake" ?

Settle down sport, I'm not trying to knock your team. I live in Austin and hear more than I care to about the longhorns. In the Arky St game they jumped out to a lead and then put it on cruise control. That, combined with lackluster and uninspired play for the duration (sound familiar VOLS), lead to my comment of sleep walking.

I'm hardly trying to defend the VOLS performance to date, we've stunk it up. And I'm apathetic to any jabs about our guys not trying on a play. Bring it on, can't really get me any more down on our program than I already am.

But please don't tell me that you can't discern the impact on statistics of playing our schedule versus your schedule.

And you can Sport? Settle your own self down.

Link?

I can't find any though where Texas players purportedly said they weren't going to try on a play.

And you played a CUSA team where you should have been able to exert statistical dominance.

Texas also had problems with Central Florida last week.

The Vols beat a very good Southern Miss squad, which prior to its loss to Tennessee was on the verge of being ranked in the top 25.

Lost at Texas 13-21
Defeated SMU 45-28

ASU Total offense 26
Tennessee-69

ASU Total defense- 49
Tennessee- 102

Reggie Arnold r/b 7.47 yards/carry 112 per game

Cory Leonard q/b 45/70 525
mobile as well

The comparison isn't quite apples vs. apples and isn't apples vs. oranges either. ASU will come to win and UT will be out to avenge their lop-sided loss to Florida. UT (1-3) won't find the game a "cake-walk".

You didn't answer my question. :neener:

Arkansas State yanked the Jumpin' Joe mascot a long time ago. The nickname, however, is still 'Indians' for this season. If you want to know the replacement, that decision will be made in Spring '08 at the earliest. So...Fan did answer your question, since "Indians" is what we are called now.

I thought it was Injun Joe. He didn't answer my question, you did by saying a new nickname hasn't been deternined. Never heard of Jumpin Joe. Are you sure you are an "Indians" fan?

We basically had Jumpin Joe, who was replaced by Runnin Joe, who was also phased out. I don't doubt you heard it called Injun Joe, because it often got confused with the Tom Sawyer character.

The article below details the complicated (possibly boring) history of it pretty well. Also included is a fan poll, which has "Red Wolves" in a clear lead as a replacement idea (although there have been several polls). Red Wolves generally wins the polls on our board also.

Yeah were still officially the INDIANS for the rest of the academic school year..the Indian Family will be phased out this winter to start gearing towards the intro. of the new mascot next Spring whatever that turns out to be. Hopefully tomorrow will be an injury free well played game on both sides. Maybe we can get the Vols to visit Jonesboro for a game in the future :shades:

Smack?

The bulk of our posts have been informative regarding our team. We've shown far more respect than our team has be given.

And the bulk of the smack has been in good humor without anger, hatefulness or juvenile talk.

If you think we talk smack, God help you if you play Oklahoma, or for that matter Memphis, they've got some seriously deranged smack talkers.

I've got no crow to eat win or lose. You can search out my game related posts here to see if you disagree.

Red wolves... I like that idea a lot. Original, regionally unique, and no one can get offended. Well, I guess I shouldn't challenge anyone to be offended. I am sure they will find a way.

You are really crackin me up.

I'll make this easy for you. I don't consider Ark St a cupcake. The way Tennessee is playing this year we could very well lose. It honestly wouldn't surprise me. The point I was making earlier, which you apparently take so much exception to, is very valid in that Tennesse has played a tougher schedule so far, which helps to explain our relative deficit in statistical rankings. My other point was that Texas is not a world beater this year; frankly, I don't think they are much better than the VOLS. This game will help us figure that out.

Anyone, good luck to you, I expect a hard fought game.

They introduced red wolves into the Land Between the Lakes, about 20 miles west of me. People keep shooting them, thinking they are coyotes.

Just something to think about.

Texas isn't a top 10 team, moreover, they sleptwalked through that game. s.

This coming from someone who probably did not watch the game.

If you had, you would have seen that Texas, who has never made a habit of taking "cupcakes" lightly, was very much ready to play.

Mack Brown's after game comments would be a big indicator of that. If we played them again tomorrow, we would still lose, but we would also still move the ball well.

Just like I believe we will do today.

Do me, and the rest of the mid-majors a favor, and don't make excuses for big teams when they don't play well.

We have co-starting RBs, one who Tennessee offered, another that Arkansas offered, and a QB who was committed to South Carolina before coming to ASU(and had an offer from LSU as a DB).

There are a lot of players on this team who Tennessee would be proud to have.

I hope today is a good game by both teams, and that there are no injuries.

Secondly, I hope that there aren't an over-abundance of cocky fans like you who spend more time dogging on the other team than complimenting your own.

We aren't the ones who just got embarrassed on national tv.
