If you are going to use the label "interim", why not just give it to someone on the staff instead of bringing in a whole new coach but then cutting the feet out from under him with that tag? Makes zero sense. I liked how they handled Petrino, but this is a joke.

Hire is perfectly logical to me. Perhaps no one knows Petrino's system better than Smith. It comes straight from the Erickson lineage. He can handle the spotlight unlike McGee.

They fire a guy because of questionable ethics only to hire John L. Smith...and he leaves his alma mater before he ever coaches?

What I heard (and this is in no way defending the move)

Every assistant that remained on the staff had worked for JLS at one stop or another. It is a system move, and JLS has a 10 month contract so, just a move to get through the upcoming season.

Good luck Slappy, you are going to need it.


(I actually like him as a person, great guy. I wouldnt ever want him as my football coach)
