Without a doubt, but it won't keep guns out of the hands of the crazies who are looking hard enough. We just aren't going to legislate away gun violence.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

The only responsible way to do it would be to tighten the screening done for purchasing weapons while getting much tougher on gun related crimes. For example, if you are caught carrying a weapon illegally there should be a very strict sentence for your first offense. What we have now is too lax and judges have too much room as far as the sentencing standards.
