Arik Gilbert speaks on HB

Yes. Folks here undervalue JG. He’ll undoubtedly be of value to HB regardless of their gap in talent. You learn things in 4 years as a college QB, even if they don’t necessarily translate to on the field.
You mean stuff like run the play that is called in the huddle?

Well didn’t seem JG has learned much while playing QB for the Vols.

Sounds like you expect JG to start and Bailey to redshirt...
If you don't want to have only one QB on your roster for 2021, that better happen. If Bailey starts, Mauer and Shrout are gone. On the other hand, if Bailey comes in this spring and performs as well as some think he might, Mauer, Shrout and Holiday may all transfer. Not a great situation to be in. IMO, it's best to redshirt Bailey, get Mauer and Holiday (wildcat) some reps in 2020 and promote competition for 2021. Hope Holiday stays and becomes another Tyreek Hill.

Meh, worry about 2021 in 2021. I would rather live in my hopes than in my fears.

And Mauer hasn't played a complete half yet has he? I would hope we get the Beckwith kid and have him instead of the TE from LV Washington and also have Beckwith as an option.

I think they will probably red shirt him, unless someone gets injured. News flash - We aren’t winning the East next year, sorry guys.

It appears Gilbert would have made an instant impact here at Tn. He has 14 receptions, 177 yds and 2 Td’s in three games. UT needs to rotate our freshman players in rotation ASAP. This includes Bailey and the freshman receivers.
Do we have any instant impact 5* guys? Maybe not in reality, but I thought Key was the closest thing...but he's coming in slowly.

I agree AG would have been an instant player here. We desperately needed a TE and he would have been awesome oof.

You make a valid point. However, for it to have truly worked out, there would have to be plays in Chaney's offense that involve throwing to the TE.

We have instant impact guys though they may not be 5 stars. Hyatt , Holliday, Wideman and Calloway because of their speed can be instant impact players. Beckwith may once he heals up. I’m not sure who may impact on defense but I believe coaching staffs are sometimes afraid to play 18/19 year olds even if they may be better than some of the current starters. Bailey is the best example.

I'm not sure, but I honestly think Jalin Hyatt and Malachi Wideman are both probably better right now than Velus Jones. Not trying to knock Jones, but he seems better as a KR / PR than a WR. He's gotten major playing time and still barely has more yardage than Hyatt who has been used sparsely. He didn't really do much at USC either. Honestly think Hyatt and Wideman may be our 2nd and 3rd best WRs and they aren't getting enough playing time.

Not really fair to compare Jones and Hyatt when you see the balls being thrown to them...or lack thereof.

Wideman is still raw and has trouble getting off Press coverage but he will be a baller for us

HB will be a great QB here I believe. Throw in a couple of Holiday packages and our competition will have alot to prepare for. Hyatt will love running routes with HB accuracy.

VN seems set on starting one of two 3 star QBs in front of him. The will by many fans to start Shrout or Maurer in front of HB is strong on this board, I don't get it, but it's there. Whether HB "is ready" or not if he's the future get him out there, JG certainly has no future as a QB. Dobbs ran for his life early against the Bamas of the world, HB will figure it out, get him out there. Your 5 star players YOU recruited are competitive and are not going to stand by very long, as in a couple of semesters is about it, watching losing efforts by 3 star players in front of them while watching from the sidelines. Get them in the game or they'll get gone, as they should IMO.

I'm no Chaney defender, but to be fair he did have success getting the ball to the TE on his first go-around here when we had Mychal Rivera on the roster.

What 5*s aren't playing? All are on the los and are out there. That's all them.
