Ariel Howard tentatively set to visit TN?

If she is serious about being a Broadcaster and Journalist and that is placed above her desire to win a championship then we would be the favorite. (IMO)

All she has to do is look at the list of former Lady Vols currently working or have worked to call games for ESPN or other networks.

Kara Lawson, Candace Parker, Tamika Catchings, Andraya Carter, Ariel Massengale, Izzy Harrison (and I'm sure there may have been others).

My question is what makes her think A&M isn't a potential contender? Anything can happen next season and the team she think is an automatic lock could have a bad season.

Azura Stevens should be an example of how to not chase championships.

I believe the answer about A&M not being a contender is the freshman point guard. and if number of anchors at ESPN is the criteria, then she should pick another shade of Orange, Syracuse.

Andraya Carter and Tamika Catchings... Izzy Harrison was afforded an opportunity while she was hear rehabbing after she was drafted. Ariel Massengale worked for the SEC network before working for Matt Insell at Ole Miss.

Hear rehabbing? Never knew that about Izzy. Only one I knew that had might have needed that was Tamika.

When she tore her ACL... she was selected in the first round but knew she couldn’t play so she was a SEC analysts a few games while also rehabbing her knee.

Visit to Mississippi State was Super for Anriel Howard

Doesn't sound like Howard will visit. She loves MSU, she is going to visit SC, and that's it.

She would've been a nice addition but I'm not bummed that she isn't coming. She'd possibly have to sit out a season (SEC doesn't always allow grad transfers to play right away) so her hoping to play and win a title probably wont occur next year and the year after she'd be playing on a team that does not have the chance of contending imo (McCowen would be gone).

She's playing next year in the SEC. She won't have to sit out and is not willing to do so.

If she picks Mississippi St. her eyelashes will still have to pay tuition in Tennessee--they are that long!

I would prefer her rebounding here over her eyelashes, however...

I think grad transfers are eligible immediately. Lou Evans played for the men immediately. So did James Daniel. I think Lou Brown will play next season. Etc.

You’re naming grad transfers transferring from other conferences to the SEC. According to Maria Cornelius a sports reporter that covers the Lady Vols, the SEC has a rule that grad transfers transferring in conference will have to sit out a year.

I hope that she has to sit if she transfers in conference. I don't like the fact that SEC coaches can go out there and try to recruit players from other SEC teams even if they have graduated. Let her play in the Big 12 or Big Ten or ACC if the SEC wants Grad transfers get them from other leagues like Tennessee did.

She won't have to sit ever if she's transfer to a SEC team.

That bylaw (14.5.5.6.1.1) is under the section for non-qualifiers. And the annual limits it's referring to are the number of non-qualifiers in the sports department. The SEC has a limit of four each for men's and women's sports. So if Howard was originally a non-qualifier then she wouldn't count towards the new school's limit of four. It's not about being eligible to play right away.

14.5.5.1 Transferring within the Southeastern Conference. A transfer student from a member institution shall not be eligible for intercollegiate competition at another member institution until the student has fulfilled a residence requirement of one full academic year (two full semesters) at the certifying institution. Further, a transfer student-athlete admitted after the 12th class day may not utilize that semester for the purpose of establishing residency. Student-athletes meeting the terms of NCAA Bylaws 14.5.5.2.1, 14.5.5.2.2, 14.5.5.2.3, 14.5.5.2.4, 14.5.5.2.5, 14.5.5.2.6, 14.5.5.2.7, 14.5.5.2.8 and 14.5.5.2.9 may seek a waiver of the provisions of this bylaw. [Revised 6/2/00; effective 8/1/2001; Revised 6/1/08]

Looking at the NCAA bylaws where one can seek a waiver, I wouldn't think any of them apply to her. But she could ask for a waiver or challenge it.

If I'm not mistaken, the provision of the SEC by-laws that requires a student-athlete transferring within the conference to sit out a year has always been subject to enforcement by the school which the athlete is leaving. If granted a full release, the student-athlete would not be subject to that particular restriction, a la, Teresa Geter, who went from Tennessee to SC because she was homesick. I believe it has already been stated that Anriel Howward has received a "full" release from Texas A&M.

She will not have to sit next year if she goes to an SEC school. She's not sitting anywhere or she'll never play college ball again. She is not willing to sit and wait, and she won't have to.

They will have three players that are 6'5 and above. We have 6'4 6'5 hopefully we can land some. but MS state knows they have to keep talent any way possible.
