I'm just not too sure what to make of this guy. On one hand he has ALL the tools. The coaches consistently rave about him doing this right and that right and primed for everything great. He's obviously capable.

He comes in like a bat out of hell looking like Eddie George running the ball and appearing as if he's going to smash Vols rushing records. Everyone was thinking we have our next great back and who cares about everyone else. He was dominating quite simply...

Then he starts to fumble the ball in the most clutch situations and gets the nagging injuries that just do not make any sense. He gets into a tad of trouble along the way, but appears to have learned from that....

Then they start to go off on him again. He's having a great off season, he's doing this right, that right, everything right.....


But I just do not believe it. I don't care how good of an off season he's had, I don't care that he's got a good attitude, I don't care that he's in the best shape of his life....

PROVE IT!!!!!


Hopefully he blows up again. I don't know if he's lazy or what. I'm taking a cautious, 'wait and see' approach with him this year.

I went on record in another thread about Montario Hardesty being the guy that takes off and I firmly believe that. Hardest was smoking Foster and Coker before hurting his knee and now this is his 2nd year back, which is when they say you REALLY recover from that kind of injury.

Nevertheless, Arian can rush for 1300 yards and make me completely happy, but I'm just not sold on him anymore.


Furthermore.....I think you could pick any runningback over the past 10 years to carry the load and if our offensive line isn't improved then we're not going to be able to run the ball. So maybe this thread should have been a Arian Foster/Offensive Line combo thread. haha

I don't think anyone is sold on him, but he is the best prototypical RB we have had since Jamal Lewis IMO. None of our backs have really been healthy in almost 3 years either.

1. Eddie George is to Arian Foster as prime rib is to bologna.
2. "Everyone" thought no such thing.
3. He "dominated" the Vanderbilts and Kentuckys of the world. Big deal. That makes him Aaron Hayden, version 2.0

Ask Eddie George about speed, or Larry Johnson, or Shaun Alexander, Corey Dillon, Jamal Lewis, sigh....Jim Brown, well.....nevermind.


So because he torched Vanderbilt and Kentucky along with South Carolina, ND, and Memphis....who may not have the best defenses in the country.....I guess we should take away how good some other top runningbacks are because they put up stats against subpar teams as well?

It isn't like we were punishing people all year long on the ground. Gerald Riggs had a few good games....against UAB and Ole Miss.

And if you weren't completely on him being a great back at UT when he was running over, through, and around everyone when he started getting the full load then well......I'd love to see what your standards actually are. haha

The fact that you list Jamal Lewis and Jim Brown as guys without speed tells me all I need to know about you.

I don't know a single person on this board whose opinion I respect that thought Foster was a top level back.

Um, Gerald Riggs had some good games against Auburn's amazing 2004 defense, LSU, Georgia, etc.

I'm giving Foster the benefit of the doubt. He had a great freshman season and all those games weren't against Vandy and Kentucky. He played against Alabama and Notre Dame in that stretch. I don't think he has world class speed by any stretch but I think he is faster than he looks.

To me, any time a back rushes for 225 yards in a game it's a nice effort regardless of who it's against.

I think injuries bothered him last year and we'll see more of what he can do this year being a year older, in better shape, and injury free.

Granted, he's had some crucial fumbles and he'll have to work on that. Regardless he's the most durable and most proven back on the roster.

Probably a bad example. I just think he played well in too many games to consider it a fluke. He did miss some of the games against the best competition but I have to judge him on the games he did play.

I will say this: I think Foster's 2007 will more resemble his 2005 season than it does his 2006 season. He ran with a bit of caution last year. I hope he doesn't NEED to shoulder the load.

With any kind of good karma, we can rely on them both. Overall, I think Hardesty has the potential to be the best back on the roster, but I have no proof to back that up.

Could be but it's still the truth. The original post mentioned Hardesty.

I agree with VIA that I believe he will look more like his 2005 self this season.

I just refuse to believe that Hardesty can take the pounding he does when he runs and hold up for any length of time.

A Little Older And Wiser From Foster Has To Be A Good Thing. People Do Learn From Their Past Sometimes. Let's Hope This Is True Now. But All Is Crapppppp Until He Shows It On The Feild....

corey dillon has NEVER been a speed back....never.

Larry Johnson ran a 4.56 coming into the NFL. He IS 6'1 228. That isn't plenty fast...

Arian Foster ran a 4.52

jim brown was a fullback for most of his career at 6'2" 230lbs......as great as he was he wasn't a speed back. I also didn't say he was SLOW.

Speed isn't only measured in 40 times however. I'm not completely naive. However, these are just two or three of a number of players who are GREAT backs that do not run 4.3's.

So if you think so little of me by knowing that, then well....congratulations, perhaps you shouldn't compare greatness with speed.

And believe me, your "respect" level for me doesn't mean much to me in response to who did or didn't think Arian Foster was a top level runningback. haha I've seen plenty of the homer-ism that makes "respect" somewhat meaningless here or any other message board.

So like or dislike my opinion, respect or disrespect what I post, you can pretty much expect that I won't make a post without having pretty much most of my bases covered. haha

Trust me, I moderate some college football forums and have my fair share of stupidity that goes around.

:rock:Although my opinion never counts on here the man has got a point. Everybody is entitled to an opinion, that is what makes this country, and volnation great. FREAK CAN I JUST GET MY FREAKING STAR EARLY :crazy:
