arguments over the ''real UT''

There are two. How is one or the other not 'real'?...

If you "lived the dream" out here, you would understand.

It's kinda like the Alamo, the Vol faithful surrounded by the not so longhorn people who constantly assail us with references to things that anyone with any sense knows does not have anything to do with Knoxville......but I will continue to fight the good fight by telling them to dial 1 if they speak Tennessean.

I'm with you on who the real UT is, but remember that Travis, Crockett and the other brave folks who answered the call for help did lose to Gen. Santa Anna at the Alamo.

Also remember that Sam Houston, who defeated and captured Santa Anna at San Jacinto to win the independence of the Republic of Texas, was a former Governor of Tennessee. (Also is a trivia question that few people ever answer--who are the four Presidents who once called Tennessee home: Jackson, Polk, Johnson...and Houston.)

Texas can use the initials, it doesn't bother me. But the original UT was the University of Tennessee, and nothing that Texas can do will ever change that fact. Or, as my dad once said, if all those Tennessee boys hadn't gone down there and fooled around with those Mexican girls, there wouldn't be any Texans.

My wife (U of TX alum) and I (real UT alum) honestly have this argument all the time. Of course when I educate her or the in-laws in history they start back tracking, and since they are Mexican they argue that without Mexicans this and that would be different. (All in the spirit of fun keep in mind) Then I'll toss in the argument that East Tennessee is a better representation of America more so than Austin (Where we live *sigh*) I truly loathe when the great comment is thrown out there, "And what kind of school name is Volunteer anyway?" That gets me going, I mean were they just not listening to the whole history lesson I gave them.

It's like finding out that your parents were allowing you to be stolen and kidnapped right from underneath them, only to be stopped by complete strangers because it was the right thing to do. Then turning around and hating those who saved you from a life of sweat shops, and drug cartels.....well kind of. But anyway “Da Nada.”

But that’s all well and good; the worst part is my sis in law is a ND alum...FML

I'm new so forgive me... but volatlien is a cocks fan? The name threw me off...

No, far from it. I do believe South Carolina is USCjr, but for me to believe that and then believe Texas is UTjr because we were founded first dose not make sense.

Not saying your a hypocrite but their are alot of hypocrites out there. Half of you all are claiming that since Tennessee was founded before Texas we are the real UT. But then i bet everyone here agrees that USCjr is South Carolina. Please tell me how that works.

No one here gives a rat's increment of anatomy at all about either USC, so not part of discussion.

We are the original UT, they are copiers who admired our awesome idea, and if they p us off, we'll tell Mexico to take 'em back.

Tennessee sold the rights to "UT" to Texas? When? I can't recall seeing a Texas game on TV recently when their name was displayed as "UT" and not "Texas"

Hate to tell ya, but the federal govt. says UT is Utah. Guess longhorns are now in 3rd.

Let them have "UT"....I'll take Rocky Top, the checkerboard endzones, the power T, Tennessee Waltz, Smokey, Tennessee Orange, the Pride of the Southland, Neyland Stadium + 107,000, and the Tennessee River. They'll always have Bevo, I guess.

When you're in SEC territory and say "UT", people think of University of Tennessee.

When you're anywhere else in the country and say "UT" people think of University of Texas.

Just the way it goes.
Not really.... At least not in big 10 country... I don't really hear UT that much, it's usually Tennessee or Texas, but people refer to both as UT at times. It's not the same inferiority complex as there is with South Carolina and USC.

Geez... Where to start...How about here:

Let them have "UT"....I'll take Rocky Top, the checkerboard endzones, the power T, Tennessee Waltz, Smokey, Tennessee Orange, the Pride of the Southland, Neyland Stadium + 107,000, and the Tennessee River. They'll always have Bevo, I guess.

Hate to tell you this but Texas currently has a larger stadium and is in the process of upping capacity to 120,000+.

I like the checkerboard and the power T so I'll give y'all credit for that. We both have good bands. We also have a river but our stadium isn't located on it so edge to y'all.

And, Bevo is badass. Of course, Smoky is cool as well.

We have the edge historically and currently in football.

We had an edge in basketball but right now y'all are better.

Women's basketball...who cares?

Miscellaneous sports: we've got baseball (big-time), swimming and diving and track.
Y'all have better softball and soccer teams.

Y'all were founded first and helped us out big-time. Thanks.

Size, money and education go BIG for Texas.

I think ESPN hates us a little less than they hate y'all.:)

I'd say it's pretty even other than the fact that most current Longhorns, including myself, prefer to just be "Texas".

We got to settle this thing on the filed. I have been to their campus last year, nice stadium on campus, but I thought the upper deck was unfinished? U Texas is a nice school, but UT all the way. God bless America, God bless Tennessee!

U of Tennessee WAS founded BEFORE Texas was even a state !

Sports has nothing to do with the founding dates.

The REAL UT is now, always was and will forever be our great University of Tennessee !!!

Typical Socialist LIBiots always wanting to rewrite history and it's just more of their ignorance !

GO UT VOLS !!!

It's never worth the breath to debate with a Texas fan... When I discuss anything with them, I always just refer to them as UTA as much as possible.

C'mon guys...You're supposed to be Tennessee alums and know some history.

Last I heard Lyndon B. Johnson was from Texas and most of the LIBiot, Socialist programs he have to pay for and are bankrupting us today WERE passed and signed into LAW by mr. LBJ.
