Honestly, the fact The University of Tennessee existed before the state of Texas SHOULD end the debate. However, when you refer to sports, all folks remember is who is winning. Tennessee hasn't had a sniff of a national title since 1999. Texas has. If we want to have the country think of us as the "Real UT", we need to get the job done on the field rather than on forums.

Not saying your a hypocrite but their are alot of hypocrites out there. Half of you all are claiming that since Tennessee was founded before Texas we are the real UT. But then i bet everyone here agrees that USCjr is South Carolina. Please tell me how that works.

If we were as irrelevant as south Carolina I'd concede the real UT

Here's the deal.........Texas has "rights" to UT everywhere west of the Mississippi except in Baton Rouge because they are a SEC town. Tennessee has "rights" to UT everywhere east of the Mississippi.

That was a "settlement", agreement or whatever you want to call it made a few decades ago

Texas is our 'cousin'...who INVENTED Texas? None other that Sam Houston & Davey Crockett (both Tennessee Volunteers!) Let those Texans claim what they will....WE Vol fans know the real story. Orange or "rust" color? Hmmmmm

Tennessee actually sold the naming rights to "UT" to Texas a while back. Thats why when you watch a game on ESPN or ABC featuring Texas the score at the top of the screen will read "UT" for Texas, however when you watch a game on TV featuring Tennessee it will show up on the screen as "Tenn".

Tennessee sold the rights to "UT" to Texas? When? I can't recall seeing a Texas game on TV recently when their name was displayed as "UT" and not "Texas"

The fact is no one gives a crap about your USC arguement. That's how that works. Go Vols.

Every now and then...my wife...who's from Austin, will refer to that school over there as UT. This causes nasty looks, scowls, and all general Alamo references to spew forth from me. I have all but squashed that nonsense.

University o Tennessee est. 1794 texas became a part of the us in 1845 so technically UT has been around longer than the entire state of texas.

Not saying you are clueless, but read my last sentence that you quoted before replying idiotic remarks. When the cocks get to the status that the condoms have, they can talk. Until then they need to STFU. Tennessee needs to get back to the top of the heap as well or we risk not being the "Real UT"

Wow, lot of retarded people here. So now you all are saying that the University establishment day doesn't matter and we should go by how good the program is at sports? Or are you saying that its a combination of the two? :lolabove: Damn talk about making up the rules as you go. Please can you get the story straight then explain.

Ok, this debate is stupid!

Unless either of the schools is thinking about putting "the real" in their actual unviersity title this doesn't matter.

TN and Texas aren't the only UT's out there. University of Tulsa. University of Toledo. University of Tulsa. Point is, this is a waste of time.

TN fans will say us.

Texas will say Texas.

Outsiders will say what the f are they talking about? This is what that guy on the Herd was talking about ...

Come on people, get out if the house and tranfer some of that blood in the head to lower regions.:dance2:

i would say that tennessee is the "original" UT. we need to get our butts into the championship games in order for the rest of the football watching public to agree we are the "real" UT. when it was founded has merit, so does winning. few people remember when UT was founded, either of them. but lots of folks remember who won.
