Are You Smarter Than an Atheist?

Buddhism is not like typical religions, as it is nontheistic. All those stereotypical Indian gods with weird animal parts and too many arms, well that's Hinduism.

And that's about all there is to that.

Yeah… I took a religions of the world class in college but that was a long time ago. I purposely picked it because I wanted to learn more about the world's religions but unfortunately had a really heavy class load that semester and as a result that class always got put on the back burner. I did just enough to make a good grade but not very much of it found its way into my long-term memory.

Looks like we've got us an atheist who's smarter than an atheist.

You know how atheists, vegans, and crossfitters all get stereotyped...can't wait to blab about themselves?

don't look now but look who broadcast his score AND his theology (or lack thereof).

:)

I didn't broadcast my score, and I'm an atheist.

Didn't want to look like I was bragging.

I didn't mention that I am agnostic [deist*] either. It's doubly unfair cause I grew up Mormon and went on a mission. The questions about Abrahamic religions were cake.

*I don't believe in a God, but I sort of hope for a creator and I don't rule it out

I didn't intend to brag, was just responding to the thread title. Wonder why Cyclops didn't get any flak?

Because this is a board based out of East Tennessee. It doesn't surprise me at all that at least 7 people shamelessly agree with a post that is jerking itself off about how Christians are awesome and atheists suck.

Question 12 of 32
12. Which of these religious groups traditionally teaches that salvation comes through faith alone?

Protestants have traditionally held up the doctrine of 'sola fide' to be a major foundational doctrine that distinguishes their religion from Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. In 1999, however, the Catholic Church signed a joint declaration with the Lutheran World Federation, which reads in part: "Together we confess: By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping and calling us to good works."

Only Protestants

Only Catholics

Both Protestants and Catholics

Neither Protestants nor Catholics

Don't know

I know that Protestants have traditionally teached sola fide but foolishly ignored the question in favor of the disclaimer which should have been presented AFTER the quiz.

It was a trap. As a general rule, never overthink quizzes like this. They're not exactly designed to determine who is the most savvy critical thinker. Just who knows general knowledge bullcrap.

Yeah, I thought it was relatively arrogant, but, then again, he's entitled to his opinions. But, that's all I'll say about that. I don't want to start another religion crap storm on here.

I just thought the quiz was amusing and was sharing it.

I'm an atheist, and I didn't brag about the fact that I got a perfect score plus 3 bonus points and am at least 10x smarter than every non-atheist in this thread.

I took a religion class in college as a blow-off course, but I wound up becoming very interested in Buddhism.

I'm just bustin' your sensitive chops. Ol' one eye didn't publish his score. Plus, it doesn't fit the joke when a theist toots his horn.

Atheists know what they know because they study the Bible et al so they can throw rocks at Christians and other religious folk.

Christians don't really study the Bible so much as just take about 10% of what they hear on Sunday or Wednesday. Plus they know what they know about Islam from watching Fox News cherry pick quotes from the Koran.

No one really knows what Hindus believe, unless they work in a large corporation with lots of Indians and are actually brave enough to ask them.

And almost everyone knows what they know about Buddhism by watching Kung Fu as a kid.

I think there is some truth to this post, but, I'll say, as far as my experience is concerned, I know what I know about the Bible because I was raised in that tradition. It's not necessarily meant as a means of castigating that tradition.

The quiz is not an adequate index of actual intelligence or thinking skills; it's merely an index of your familiarity with a multitude of world traditions/beliefs.

By the way, I've been meaning to compliment you on your "The Man Who Would be King" avatar. I love that movie.
