Are you satisfied with the job BJ has done this year?

My expectations were 10-2 and to be the favorite to win the East. I thought we might lose it to uga, depending on how Smart did in his first year.

Anytime I have expectation, one below is still acceptable.

So I am not completely satisfied, but the season is not a failure at all.

Now if we lose to Vandy, I will not be satisfied. But Butch will still be our coach next year. We need to hold serve on Vandy to help recruiting, get a new AD and see where the chips fall next year.

I'm not completely satisfied, and think Butch did a very poor job through the SC game. The big issue being his coddling of Hurd, which hurt the team more than we probably realize. Even then, I in no way think he should be fired.

I think he has done a very good job post-SC. Need to close with a win against Vandy and then we should get a good bowl game.

I don't know if Butch will win championships or not, and neither do any of you. I do know that he has consistently improved and I expect him to at least be in contention in the East for years to come. I disagree with the Gator on here. I wouldn't be surprised to see us win the game down there next season.

Coddling players has been the death of many coaches. Hope CBJ doesn't fall into this trap thinking he has his best option on the field when his best option is on the bench. Poison has been many good teams detriment. A good coach neuters the poison early.

If he wins 7 games next year, he should absolutely be on the hotseat.

If he wins 7 next year and is back the following year, Tennessee can't really call Alabama a rival with a straight face, since it would mean we clearly don't hold our program in high regard.

Nope. it's progress. But not satisfied. we should have beaten south carolina and won the east. inexcusable.

I agree with it being 'inexcusable' but will say that it is not 'unusual' . Every team in the country except for one has lost games they should not have lost . The fact that we have only lost one of the games we should have clearly won speaks of progress. Not out of the woods yet !

Well we won 0 of the games we "shouldn't have won" so there's that.

It sucks , I agree . But no body has beat one of this teams and I dont foresee them getting beaten by anyone but themselves. A & M was doable , it just didnt happen.

Bama has not beaten any team that they were not supposed to beat :dance2:

Yet their cross division permanent teams and rotation were atleast 2 out of 3 tough teams. Half of their SEC games were tough year after year.....

Well, so now you are changing the argument from the East being really good in the 90s to UT's cross division rivals were tougher, which is not really true either. The West was not very good overall in the 90s, same as the East. Bama was hot and cold during that decade (which is why Fulmer was able to win 7 in a row), same as Auburn, who only had 3 really good seasons in 93, 94, and 97. Bama was good the first part of the 90s, but slipped considerable after Stallings left. Ark sucked through most of the 90s, having that one good season in 98 where they won 9 games. LSU had 2 good seasons in 96 and 97. MSU had a couple of good seasons in 98 and 99, and Ole Miss pretty much sucked their way through the 90s. Overall, the West was not that consistently good in the 90s.

I am quite satisfied except for the loss to the Chickens. Had we not lost that game we'd be ranked in the Top 10 right now, and dreaming of upsetting Bama to make the playoffs.

Edit: I am not satisfied with our run defense. It is atrocious.

Butch should not go anywhere. However, in 4 years he hasn't had this team beat a good team yet. We had Alabama on the ropes last year. Florida was a good win to get the monkey off our back but then I feel like that win got erased with the loss to South Carolina. I hear people blaming Jalen Hurd...that's stupid. As a head coach, if someone is not cutting it you have the power to bench their butt!

I agree. That is on Butch.

I think he has done well with stabilizing the program, but this year was a choke job. Much like the Oklahoma and Florida games last year, when the title shot was there for the taking he choked. As a head coach the responsibility falls on you to have your team ready to play. Unless he overhauls this recruiting class it's underwhelming. Commend him for his successes but call it like it is. His results are average.

Yes, we beat Florida and Georgia. Biggest disappointment - losing to South Carolina. Games over past 3 years have been close with them. Beat Vandy and win a bowl game. 10-3 isn't too bad. Predicted a 10-2 or 11-1 regular season. One game off.
Looking at 2017 season, worst case 8-4 and possible best 10-2. Tough games: LSU and Bama.

I disagree. He has coached us to wins over good teams.

He runs the team like a family, disowning family is hard.

Go Vols!

Beat Vandy!

As supportive as I like to be during the season, of our coaches and players alike, this year has me beginning to feel a bit of doubt.

Our lads were not disciplined or focused on the field, from the first game right through South Carolina. That was the prime factor in the early games being so close (App State and Va Tech in particular).

Then injuries started weighing more and more heavily, esp. on defense, until opposing offensive coordinators started salivating like Pavlov's dogs at the opportunity to take advantage of our swiss cheese interior line.

Today, the story is injuries. But early on in the season, the main story was lack of on-field discipline (the lads are wonderful off-field this year, both in the classroom and in the community).

And discipline is a calling card of the coaching staff.

So now, for the first time in four years, I'm beginning to be worried about our head coach's ability to take us to the top. Not because of any silly field goal vs/ go-for-it-on-4th-and-goal decision, but because of the lack of on-field discipline over an entire campaign.

We'll see. Not giving up on Butch, but the seed of doubt has been planted. Hoping he can root it out in 2017.

I disagree. His results are below standard at best.

Tennessee lost the east a few weeks ago. Butch didn't suddenly become a worse coach yesterday because Florida upset LSU.

I quite enjoyed senior day yesterday. Fantastic performance by Dobbs. Fun day.

Very true. It was lost vs Gamecocks. Missouri game was a great performance by Dobbs.

Just in case everyone hasn't figured out what has happened to volnation expectations and the entire college football world. We are in the new world order. No one will be patient, reasonable or just proud of our favorite team if we don't get in the 4 team playoff and soon. To do that you have to be good enough to win your division, from there, win the SEC and guess what, you can see the promise land from there. Ain't no bowl game going to give anyone that warm feeling after 4 years of building to that end.

Good post

They knew they were good and the sky was the limit. With that confidence they would gamble to make a big play and goof up, when a regular play would have won the game. Every play doesn't have to be a Hail Mary, maybe they got bored with our conservative play calling.

Go Vols!

Beat Vandy!

Satisfied? No.below my expectations? Yes. But I'm not stupid enough to not recognize the affect injuries and an internal cancer had on the team. If we win out in regular season, we should acknowledge that we are making progress. Maybe not at the pace we demand, but progress none the less.

Nope. it's progress. But not satisfied. we should have beaten south carolina and won the east. inexcusable.

Then our reward would be get beat by 50 to bama, i agree that we should have beat SC other than that Coach has done a pretty good job he need's to make change's to his staff or we will have a new coach in 18 the new AD will won't his own coach if we have a bad year in 17 but saying that with all the player's that we will lose what can we expect next year.

Boy's i have been a fan for 48 year's other than coach PF run Tennessee is a 8 or 9 win team.
