Are you getting more optimistic or pessimistic about the upcoming season?

I was extremely optimistic until some of our receivers have gotten hurt. It's not like we're loaded with 4-5 star receivers anyway. But I am still more excited then most years.

 I haven't been this excited since the clawfense took the field :eek:lol:

OPTIMISTIC

We will win some games...If Eric Berry says we have talent and we will shock some teams...I Believe we will shock some teams.

I think if Monte Kiffin can design a defense to pick off Peyton Manning 4 times in 1 game I think he can do the same for Tim Tebow.
I would not say that coaching wins all games most of the time its both players and coaches....But good coaching wins big games!
I believe in this staff and the players we have an we got this year. We will have some talent on the field. Crompton will come out of his shell this year and show he can play.
Until we lose an easy game or our offense just looks pathetic like last year....I am going to blame a lot of our misfortune on Clawsen,Chavis, and Fulmer.
Gerald Jones will be back in time for Florida and Moore will be after that probably. But we still got Warren (who has busted his ass to get weight off and looks good) then we got Hancock and Nukesse,Green,Rogers, and Teague coming in to help. Not to mention some pretty good and big tight ends. Just like stated before we dont have the top of the top recievers we just need them to make some plays. If we setup the run it will open the field for a decent reciever to look like a pro!

When did he get picked off 4 times in one game by Tampa Bay? The most I saw was once in 2003 and once in 2007. Both times Kiffin faced Manning, Kiffin lost.

Chavis did a decent job last year with the defense. The offense couldn't keep up. With the WR depth now as thin as the OL depth, I'm not sure how good the offense will be this year. There is some decent young talent but they cannot replace experienced players.

New defense and new offense is going to take some time to get all of the pieces in place. Not sure how long it takes but I doubt it's in time for UF.

I wonder how much that physicality will be impacted by the departure of Mark Smith? His ability to get them ready and the inopportune timing.

South Carolina had a hard time blocking and staying healthy the past couple of years on the O-Line, Mark Smith may have ran them ragged

Stars aren't everything, but they're a good indicator of overall talent. Not sure how you think UT is "just as talented" as Georgia and Bama.

I don't really care about rankings, why in the 2006 and 2007 seasons did we dominate UGA? And the series over the past few seasons has went back and fourth with Bama? Last season with a terrible offense and a defense that was spending way too much time on the field we hung in pretty well with both teams. So I stick by my statement we are just as talented.

The team is excited....the coaches are excited! We are going to play ball this year like Tennessee ball is suppose to be played. No more conservative football... No giving up. We will be a team that WILL NOT back down from anyone.
I believe the fans will be very surprised about what will happen this year and even our opponents jaw will fall to the floor after the first quarter in amazment. ;)

Miami fans were amazed after they pounded Charleston Southern last year. The excitement will only come after beating a formidable opponent like UCLA. Lose to them and it's probably going to be a long season. I think WKU is ranked 119 out of 119 Div I teams.

Welcome to the newcomers to the VN, the best UT board on the planet.

I'm extremely optimistic. A new staff, a new feeling, and a renewed sense of pride....Discipline, dedication, and attention to detail should bode well for our future.

I'm long term optimistic because this staff is strong and they are recruiting well and will continue to do so--I think the talent will improve. That said, I think this year's team could struggle. I expect the offense to function better than the mess we saw last year--but unless we can run the ball really well I think scoring could be difficult again, because the passing game could be bad again. Shaky QB play and NO experienced WRs who aren't injured. I just don't see us throwing the ball effectively. On D, the DL and LB units are thin. The UCLA, auburn, ole miss and south carolina games are all pivotal as they could go either way, IMO.

Our defense should be enough to keep us in every game except probably Florida. If we can run the ball as well as we should be able to, let Crompton just manage the game and hopefully get something out of special teams I think we should be ok. I really believe we should be able to compete for 2nd place in the east.

Haven't changed one bit. They still haven't hit anybody that isn't on our team yet. I'll begin to form my opinion then, as nothing can really make a difference up to that point(barring injuries)

I am pessimistic about our offense, I think the run game will be better but the passing game will have to prove itself.

I am optimistic about the defense, barring a few key injuries we should be equal or improved to last year.

I saw this topic on another site and to be honest I am trending downward. I dont know if its the QB recruiting or the injuries, but I am really starting to feel crappy about the upcoming season. I will admit that I get a little down when I see Bama, UGA, & UF reel in big name after big name and we make headlines for all the wrong reason. I felt like we would win the games we are supposed to and pop at least one, possibly two upsets this year. Now Im not so sure. What say you?

I'm shocked that you are pessimistic about this upcoming season.

What are these "wrong reasons" you speak of?

Nonsense.

No it's not. Their cannot be any losses on the OL this year. Physical play wears and literally tears the OL. One or two losses and the OL is rotating with walk-on. The SEC defenses will be licking their chops to take on the UT walk-ons...

So let's hold hands and hope the opposing DL takes it easy on Tennessee's OL?

Ridiculous.

I agree...you have to play physical in practice if you plan on doing anything remotely productive on the field.

and our coaches have stated exactly that. There won't be any green jerseys for the guys in the trenches
