Are We Witnessing The Death of Tennessee Football?

We've had 3 coaches in 3 years. Could not attract an elite coach and we were publicly spurned by some 2nd tier coaches. We cant fill the stadium (Tennessee is selling 3 game ticket packs, how weak is that?). I cant recall the fan base ever being this divided in my 40 years of following the Vols. Recruiting seems to be struggling. Fan enthusiasm is nonexistent. Each of our rivals that possess a strong talent base are elite and show no signs of falling off (UGA/LSU still reeling them in despite underperforming). Super conferences looming on the horizon and I believe that if the SEC expands it will only further hurt Tennessee recruiting. Can it be that our best days are behind us?

We had "three" coaches in three years? That statement makes it sound like we had 3 new coaches, we had two new coaches in the last two years and one coach who was here for 16. The second coach didnt leave because this was such a ****ty job, he left because he was offered his dream job. Just because Tennessee would be mine and your dream job doesnt mean it was his.

Secondly, shut up. The end of Tennessee football? Really?

The Ticket bundles are just a new promotional thing that the ticket office has started, it has nothing to do with poor fan support and more to do with a crappy economy. So don't use a marketing gimic as an excuse for Tennessee's destruction. It just makes you sound stupid.

We are further along right now then we were in recruiting last year, the big fish don't sign until the season starts or in Feb. Plus, we had two top ten classes if we go a year without a top ten class, we aren't going to die.

On expansion, The SEC, (SLIVE) has said that it doesnt want to expand anymore than two more teams, and those are probably going to be from the ACC. How is that going to hurt Tennessee? Give us two more cake wins most seasons and tear at the fan base of these floater colleges?

Rex, I know I shouldnt feed you, you're like a trailer park dog, feed you once and you never leave the back porch. And now I've got a new dog... But I decided to jump in anyway today to maybe calm the fears of ppl who actually believe the garbage you spew:crazy:

The 3-packs are overpriced. UT needs to cut the price of all tickets and fees to fill up the stadium!

The problem with that argument is that you failed to mention the context of that top 10 class. We were something like 6th in the SEC. We may be doing better in recruiting than a lot of teams around the country, but we continue to fall further and further behind the teams we actually play. At this point, going a year without a top 10 recruiting class will be DEVASTATING to the program. Do you expect to see UF, Bama, UGA, LSU or Auburn just take a year off from recruiting? I doubt it.

We just had back-to-back top 10 recruiting classes. We have not fallen completely off the radar.

Don't think we have fallen off the radar and don't think our program is anywhere near death but top 10 recruiting classes don't mean jack if they don't perform. Our problem has been coaching. Fulmer was past his time and Kiffin didn't stay long enough to unpack. Just gotta hope and believe in Dooley, cause right now he's all we got! Also agree with another poster, our facilities are second to none and we have a lot of $$$$. Not to mention playin in one of the best stadiums in the country, and when the remodeling is done, could be the best. As a life long Vol I refuse to even think we are dieing!

Geeez....could you paint a more gloomier picture? You should be a little more positive.:good!:

Things are far from a TN nadir. The "run the program into the ground" feeling was wildly illogical anti-Fulmer sentiment and, now, the nuking of our program in order to "save" it. We need stability, we need kids with time in the new system, and we need Fulmer-esque recruiting classes. We missed all of that with the Hambone Experiment. What has happened is a first for Tennessee fans in living memory.

As LWS said this is light years better than the 70s.

I'm not sure it's the worst thread ever. It encapsulates a lot of feelings between the death-throes of the economy, the state of the nation, Hambone's nuking the program, and the wildly illogical which dominates life.

Totally wrong. Fulmer was driving the program into the ground and the classes we got in his absence were better than the last two he reeled in.

As much as I dislike UA look where their program is and they had 3 coaches in 2 yrs. Saban will ultimately bail and all will be right in the world. As far as fan enthusiasm goes there's always going to be ups and downs that part of the game.

i think if Dooley fails we may ot recover for 10 years or so. We are definitely a coach class school in the SEC and irrelevant nationally.

Irrelevant nationally??? So that's why when there is any type of news out of Knoxville the NATIONAL media picks it up without hesitation. The Vols aren't going anywhere, the program may not be late 90's good, but it's also not dead. :aggressive:

Um, no. At 57, he's staying there till he's either fired or he retires.

ugh rexvol whips me smooth out. just come out of the closet gator. this thread adds nothing positive to the world as a whole, much less the rest of our favorite team's program. don't go away mad, just go away.

What he said.:clapping:

Does this mean we have to one of those ceremonies the WWE has every time the Undertaker "dies?" I'm really excited about the idea of orange cloaked druids.

But since Undertaker is only in a vegative state because his evil brother Kane attacked him, does this mean we are in a vegative state? Who is our evil brother that left us this way?

saban and meyer will not be at ua/uf forever. When they leave, UT can be a player in the SEC again!!

AWESOME. And there should be a Power T Stonehenge for the ceremonial grounds...
