Yes.
Lawson is an OLB in a 3-4. Georgia's starting DE's are Garrison Smith at 6'3 294 (a recruited DT out of HS) and Cornelius Washington at 6'4 280. Alabama's are Ed Stinson at 6'4 282 and Damion Square at 6'3 286. Lawson is built like a pure 4-3 WDE, and his height limitation and already developed physique mean that he would never "fit" as a 3-4 DE, which are usually guys that would be playing DT in most 4-3 defenses.
Why would Rodney Garner, a DL coach, be "to blame" for the slow recruitment of a player that wouldn't even be playing DL in their scheme and truthfully is a much better fit in a 4-3 defense anyway? You guys making this argument seem to be under the impression that Garner is the only one that had authority to issue scholarship offers at Georgia.
No I am not done. Funny, you talk about my 'orange shades' and reference my response as a rant, and yet provide no evidence as to why you believe Auburn is more currently relevant other than a National Title win. Truth is, you can't even formulate a good argument and debate the points that I made in my post.
Here let me show you. You mentioned Chris Todd. What stats do you have to back up Chris Todd being a good QB? All I see is a QB that led his team to 5-7 and 8-5 seasons, hardly impressive. And I won't argue Tennessee is currently more relevant, because currently they both stink which is why they have new coaching staffs this year. You arguing the 2010 National Title is about as relevant as me bringing up Tennessee being 8th in all time wins and winning 6 national titles in the universities history. Either we stay current or we pick the schools entire history, which by the way doesn't favor Auburn.
See you start an abortion of a thread about a player that already had a thread. Then you use this thread to push some point home that we aren't in it for Lawson because you go to school at Auburn and the kids around you told you we weren't. Next thing I know your defending the school as being more relevant with your apparent limited knowledge of the program. Truth is, I didn't even have to touch on Auburn being behind Bama as one of the most corrupt programs in CFB history to even achieve what they have in their long history.
If you are Vol fan, start acting like one and be proud. No need to stick your head in the sand. Lawson or not, Tennessee is coming back. And I'll be the one in the orange tinted glasses singing Rocky Top all the way back to their rightful place in the SEC pecking order.
The National Title is the only argument I need buddy. One bad year does not change their relevance on a national scale. Hell, look at the recruits they're looking to sign a year after going 3-9.
Ok here, I'll impress you. Chris Todd threw for 2612 yds w/ a 60% completion percentage and for 22 TDS & 6 picks. His QB rating was 145.7 for the season. The offense under Todd was 2nd in the SEC and Top 20 in the nation at just under 432 yds per game. All this a season after Auburn had the 104th offense that's passing efficiency was 105th in the nation. If you choose to still belittle the positive influence Malzahn had on Auburn's offense that season, then there was no hope for talking sense into you anyway.
I'm as proud a Vol fan as there is. I've worn my orange UT gear to school since elementary school and have dealt with the most obnoxious Alabama and Auburn fans you can imagine (especially considering BHam's massive CFB market).
I just want to be realistic about the rebuilding process. We're not relevant. All you have to do is travel 50 miles outside of Tennessee to realize that. I truly hope CBJ can turn us around, but we're a long ways from being relevant.
Talking sense? As if you are talking from a sensible position. Malzahn wasn't running the show. While he gets credit for the NC, there is too many moving parts to assume that will translate to him being a successful HC. Auburn had most of their commits before the 3-9 campaign. And they have too many problems for a class of freshmen to immediate turn that around. As for Todd, great stats for a 8-5 record.
CBJ has a track record of winning as a HC. Given better facilities, stadium, fan and booster support, there is no reason to think he can't replicate his efforts.
And I would say with all of Tennssee's problems, having the 9th highest profit margin this past year says more than a handful of people you've talked to at the gas pump that have probably never played a down of football past 10 years of age.
Hope we get Lawson, if for any other reason to show your delusional take is very localized.
We can argue CBJ's track record all day. It's impressive, but success in the Big East and MAC doesn't always translate to the SEC. Malzahn, meanwhile, does have past experience and success in the SEC. (maybe not as a head coach but you have to admit that Auburn's dynamic offense under Malzahn was a major reason for their success under Chizik.)
There's no sense in the bold statement. It's a fairly basic strawman fallacy that totally undermines this discussion.
I too hope we land Lawson, but my reasoning has more to do with trying to shore up one of the worst defenses in Tennessee and SEC history.
