I've been noticing something that has really been eating me up lately, and mabey you all will get what I'm saying.

I live straight in the heart of the Big Oarnge country and don't understand why I'm not seeing a lot of people at my high-school wearing UT appeal. There are a few, like me that are die-hard fans, but most seem to be anything BUT that!

Mostly, there are the Gator-fans, but then you got all of the Ohio State guys here along with Georgia, LSU, and even Florida State fans! Luckily, there seem to be no Bama fans...

And most of these guys are like me, having lived like I said in the heart of the country! Are they not proud of their state?! I mean, look at what UT has accomplished in the past! It's history, the General, Manning, Fulmer all great names that are of the state, and THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE!!

Mabey I'm over-reacting, but can someone explain this to me?! WHERE ARE THE UT FANS!?!?!?!?!?!

I think the sample group of a bunch of fickle high schoolers really throws a wrench in your question.

Highschool kids are pretty fickle when it comes to sports. They will fall off the Florida and Georgia bandwagon like an armless drunk as soon as they have a couple bad seasons. As far as the FSU fans...they're diehard for sure and thats respectable.

okay, i understand FSU, i respect them myself actually, but I really hate the fact that they don't respect their state.

In three years, all the bandwagon jumpers will be back. It's been hard to pull and cheer for the product that has been put on the field named Tennessee football for the last six years. It took Peyton graduating and alot of good fortune for UT to win a National Championship in '98. It takes a RUN game and a D-GATE to win on Saturdays. The future looks bright for Volunteer fans.

I wouldn't lose sleep over a bunch of High Schoolers not liking Tennessee (state or team).

They don't generally respect anyone or anything very much until they've had a healthy dose of the real world. Only reason I say the fsu kids are for real is because anyone that can stomach what they've been through and still fly the colors are true fans. There's no shame in being a fan of a team in another state or even multiple teams, but the ones running around mouthing off about the fotm teams are just hard to take seriously. Just wait till UT gets a few key games under their belt. It will be disgusting how many "lifetime vol fans" emerge.

I was born and raised in Ga, but have never been a dawg fan. That doesn't mean I don't respect my state. I just don't like UGA.

05...I feel your pain. I was born in Carrollton also but never was a UGA fan. Once I became a Vol, that was my "final answer". I can pull for UGA, UF, AL and some of our enemies when it helps us in winning our half of the conference. But overall, I dispise all of their fans!

My grandson is three and he can't see a power T without saying go big orange .I don't think parents teach their kids pride in their state .The vol nation should start a fund to give kids Tee shirts and that would help .

I don't view cheering for UT and having pride in your state as the same thing. One can can exist without the other and this reminds me of Titans fans saying you should cheer for them just because they are in TN now.

I guess anyone wearing green on Tues hates the USA too

I live in Texas and there are a few big schools here. I have notced that who ever is doing the best(as far as winning %) gets all the glory! I am a UT(Tennessee) fan, and I do not have many friends here!!!...Get my point??? Most of you think you have to be born in TN to be a true UT fan. To be a true fan is to live out of state and still suppport your team! It is not an easy life!!!...Go VOLS!!!!

I have had quite a few heated conversations with my buddies discussing football while drinking a few cold ones.:) I have also had a few discussons with people that weren't my friends........ I consider it fun being a Vol fan in GA.:whistling:

One thing that I have noticed is how stagnant everything in Tennessee has been with our Volunteers. It's almost as if after the national championship we went into a lull. Kiffin has had some unique ways of doing it, but it is like his freshness has brought that back...all of these thoughts might just be me, but I am more excited about this year than I have many years in the past...also Bryce Brown being a good possibility helps the excitement.

You might also consider that HS kids are warehoused in sick under-funded institutions that treat them like crap and therefore are dedicated to the proposition that being contrary to what most people say is a religious obligation.

They aren't wearing other teams' clothing because they really know either UT or those other teams, they're wearing them in a desperate attempt to be somebody different- even if it's a jerkoff.

Where do you think Bama fans come from?

My school is mostly Tennessee fans. A loser Florida fan in my grade but both of his parents went there. About two or three Bammers.

Most likely those kids aren't "fans" of anyone but perhaps the people they saw wearing that garb in a rap video.

I bet you start seeing a lot less FSU apparel in the next few months. This is probably nothing more than kids jumping on the bandwagon.
