Are we just a QB away from being good?

If so, would the Wake QB be an upgrade? I would love for Bailey to be able to redshirt next season.

I don’t know that any of our QB’s who played this year are truly capable of playing at this level.

I’d trade any of our current QB’s for Indiana’s in a heart beat.

I don't understand the allure of wanting an elite QB to redshirt. If HB comes in and wins the job he will start as a FR SO JR and go pro....that's 3 years of him starting. If he redshirts he sits FR year, plays RSFR and RSSO years then goes Pro....that's 2 years of him starting....

TLDR version is 3>2

A good QB would have won us the first two games but we'd have still lost to Bama, UGA and UF.

Would look good on paper but we'd still be in the same pecking order in the SEC.

We obviously need a good QB but we'll need talented depth to compete with the top half of the conference

If Bituli played all year and we weren't missing four d starters the first few games we win 10 this year. Availability of players seemed to be the biggest factor. Even when Bituli went out last night they had their best drives.

We would have 10 wins this year with better QB play IMO.

At least 10 wins, and I believe we have some good qb on our roster now. Just need playing time bailey, shrout, maurer, holiday. Not necessarily in that order.once again when maurer was put in the game we begin to play better.even jg played better afterward.any new starting qb will make mistakes. But their ceiling is much higher than the qb we have been playing. We should have scored 40 points last night.

I disagree, with a good qb, we would have beat one or two of those 3. We were right along with ga. In midd ln e of 3rd as well as bama. So with good qb play, yes we are there now.

I agree. We need to maximize the time he is here.

JG is to the Vols as Marcus Mariotta is to the Titans.

Both keep doing just enough to make you wonder if they will ever turn the corner from being marginally good to really good/great.

It took the Titans taking a chance with Tannehill to realize that MM was not going to cut it for the Titans. Who know what their season would have looked like with Tannehill starting from game #1. They are pretty lethal now on offense for sure.

Right now the Vols don't have a "Tannehill" on the roster. Let's all hope HB is that guy, because JG does not seem to be able to turn the corner from "good to great" !!!

And, what happened against Bama when Maurer got hurt?

I really respect the toughness of JG and his loyalty to the program, but then you realize he is only an average QB. With the right guy we score a lot more than 23 on Indiana and the game is a no contest. JG was all over the place with the ball high, low, wide, aiming and missing. I would like a new beginning at QB because if we had a top guy there this team is a factor in every game we play next season.

Part of JGs problems I blame on coaches. The play calling in the red zone simply magnified JGs shortcomings. JG isnt good at picking out WRs in close coverage, yet they elect to throw about 15 passes in the red zone with this guy. Thats like asking Babe Ruth to steal 2nd base.....

Ruth had 123 stolen bases

If the team finishes the regular season 9-3, they aren't playing Indiana in their bowl game. They would have drawn a MUCH stiffer opponent. I think 9-4 would have been as likely as 10-3.

Fair point.

That first set of downs when we got to the six yard line was mind boggling. I was looking to see if Butch was back. I thought we could've tried to run it on first and second down and if unsuccessful throw from there.

I think this team was in the Gator Bowl with 7, 8 or 9 Regular season wins. I dont think they'd knocked Auburn or Alabama out of their bowls. LSU, Ga, Ala & Aub would all been above Tennessee even with 9 wins. I doubt Tennessee or SEC would have wanted to go to Texas. Jax was the best bowl Tennessee would have got regardless IMO.

Did you just compare JG to arguably the greatest baseball player ever?
